Harry Redknapp has condemned the actions of Ledley King following the defender's run-in with the police.
The Tottenham skipper was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning over an alleged assault outside a London nightclub.
King has since apologised for his behaviour and accepts that he was in the wrong.
He could, however, face further punishment from Spurs, with Redknapp keen to make it clear that he will not accept any misbehaviour from his squad.
"I left the country very early yesterday (Sunday) morning to go and watch a game in Italy. I only really heard about it when I arrived at the airport, I hadn't seen a newspaper," Redknapp told Sky Sports.
"I got back in England at 3am this morning, so I really wasn't in contact with anybody yesterday.
"It's not a good situation, though, and it's out of character for Ledley because he's a terrific person in my opinion, but it happens when players go out drinking. They need to look at that, we need to look at that, every club needs to.
"We have to set examples and we have to be role models to kids. Getting drunk and misbehaving is not setting the right example. Ledley knows that, he has apologised, and the club will look to see what action needs to be taken.
      Mistakes

"He has let himself down. He's a fantastic boy, but he has got to learn from that and make sure it never happens again.
"People make mistakes. It's not right, though, and it can't happen. I don't think there is any place for drinking in football.
"The rewards are so fantastic now. Modern day footballers are top-class athletes and they should look after themselves."
Redknapp believes too many players are not aware of their social responsibly to set a good example to others.
He also feels that modern-day football has a drinking culture similar to that which existed during his playing days in the 1970s.
"Yes I do, too much goes on still," he said.
"It's every football club. Not as much as it used to years ago, sure, but it still goes on."

True. But the days of Julian ****s, Neil Ruddock and Tony Adam etc have long gone. You have to be an athlete at you're absolutely peak to survive in the Premiership today, so I can see why clubs would endorse a no drinking policy during the season.

There is obviously a huge difference between a glass of red wine with a meal and pissing yourself in a police cell though, so it really is just down to the individual to use some common sense.
