Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas could be in hot water with the Football Association for his remarks about referee Howard Webb following the 5-2 defeat to Manchester United.
The FA have written to the England player asking him to explain his comments about Webb, who awarded a controversial penalty against Spurs when the visitors were leading 2-0 at Old Trafford.
An FA spokesman said: "We have written to Jermaine Jenas to ask for an explanation for his remarks."
The midfielder has seven days to respond after which FA disciplinary chiefs will decide whether he is to face a charge or not.
The remark the FA take issue with is when Jenas said after the game: "One thing which struck me about it was that he [Webb] didn't even think. It was like he'd already made his mind up when he came out for the second half that he was going to give something."
Jenas also said: "I think it was a case of a referee crumbling under the pressure at Old Trafford really.
"The atmosphere, the occasion, the importance of the match, a lot of factors take their toll when making decisions."

jenas is right its about time somebody spoke out about refs at old trafford they seem to cr-p it and dont make decisions against the mancs
typical fa ferguson can say what he wants about refs but as soon as someone else says something there on a fa charge what jj said was spot on and if his performance is analysed they will see that
instead of wasting time chasing jenas for an explaination, they could perhaps try to work out why their referees' are so poor as well as trying to find out where the referees assistant was on saturday, what was he doing having a chat with bacon face on the halfway line
This is ridiculous, "Sir" Ferguson, Mourinho and little miss Wenger do it every match the bloody lose...For once a player has stood out and said something witch is so true...Why can't they just bring in camera decisions like they did in tennis...Something so easy to do.
Jenas is so right though since the start of 2nd half, there was alot of "cheap fouls" going utd's way...This happenned against blackburn or bolton also...we got that red card, and every tackle the blackburn player fell, the crowd went wilder and wilder and in the end the ref gave every single tackle a yellow card or a goal chance free kick.
And then 1 foul came in which is maybe worth a yellow and it was a red then our players just get scared to tackle as they are all on yellows...When is this gonna stop, when will it be time to change the refs, bring a new cycle of refs in...seriously half of them are fat and cant even keep up.![]()
Coooome oooon yoooou spuuuurs, cooome ooon yooou spuuurs.
I'd write back asking for an explanation of the poor reffing. Or a Ferrari
As far as I can tell Jenas' comment started with 'I think...' therefore stating that it's his opinion. He didn't say Howard Webb gave in to the pressure, he said he thought that's what happened. A big difference in my mind.
"It's no use just winning, we've got to win well."
Ronaldo and Rooney's constant *****ing and moaning, Ronaldo's constant diving, old Red Nose's untouchable and infallible status have somehow ground down common sense in Everyone, not just the refs. Even announcers are completely biased. If you have eyes in your head that are operational, and you hear some of the garbage these announcers say to tweak plays and tackles to coincide with their hidden agenda of ManUre success, and you're not outraged, then you are a ManUre drone. You should see the hacks we have out here in the US that host the recaps and give commentary on Fox Soccer Channel act, they're all completely in the bag for ManUre. It's become a joke. Cheers to Jenas for calling that hoser Webb out.
Webb is a disgrace to the universal symbol of impartiality... The referee.
I don't think Webb is biased, but you're right about the people at FSC- not knocking them, I'm grateful the channel exists, but all of them are shills for the big four.
The worst, though, is that idiot Tommy Smyth who does the CL matches on ESPN2. In the first leg of the Manure-Porto match, he did the entire game without once talking about a Porto player. It was like the whole team weren't out there. Horrible. He ruins the matches for me.
Nice work Jenas.
In any other walk of life the FA would be slated for trying to deny someone their liberty of free speech!
When the ref at Vicarage Road awarded Reading a goal, when the ball went wide, he was slated by his employers and struck off!
When Clattenburg dissalowed pedro mendes' goal at Old Trafford, the FA hailed him as one the brightest young referee's (although he has since gambled his way out of that!) and when Webb gift wraps United the victory last Saturday, they have the cheek to come down against jenas for expressing his view on the absolutely abysmal performance by ol' CueBall-head Webb.
The FA are a bunch of cock munching twats.
