      The hard fact is, Darren Bent has scored 17 goals this season. mainly off the bench;

He missed a sitter, yes, but the hard fact is that he is a 15 goal guarantee a season if he starts (and we all know he has been bench player druing his time at THFC)

so the question for the summer is, should we allow him to leave?
(17 goals remember, with games to play...)

If he can score from the bench just think how many he would scored if he had been playing

No, we should get rid of him. There is more to a strikers game than just scoring goals and Bent doesn't offer anything else. We can easilly find another striker who will bag just as many goals as Bent but offer us a lot more as well. Keane is a prime example of what type of striker we need. We have him & Defoe, and Pava as well. There is no need for Bent at all. Bent scores goals but not important ones, as I said before how many goals that Bent has scored have actually won us points?

Not to mention his runs really stretch a defense and help to open up room in the mid-field. That is a dimension of the game that we really don't get from Keane or Pav... and who knows what we can get from Defoe since he has hardly been on the field.

for mine darren B was our best player against man u, even after he got injured. That second half was a bit of a train wreck but atleast he showed he can hack it against the best defence in the world on their home dung heap. So I would say that it would be silly to sell him.

On the subject of strikers I would say that we now have a decent quartet; my only gripe is that I dont think keano should be a walk up start; in the past maybe but I dunno if he still has the legs to necessarily keep out Pav, defoe and bent from the starting lineup every week.

You think keane doesnt stretch defenses? Sorry but have you watched keane play?
Darren bent has scored goals, great.. but he is not a good enough player and is SOOO BORING to watch. Get rid of him if he is still here next season I will stab my own eyes out with a rusty butter knife.

if that was ANY OF YOU that had scored 17 coming mainly of the bench (and still being top scorer) - YOU KNOW U will be fuming with some of the points raised by FELLOW spurs supporters...

i think even Harry has acknowledged he was maybe wrong about Bent - and has come out publicly and apologised...Maybe he too is thinking 'diamond in the rough'....food for thought

You cnat fault how many he has scored but look at his reccord of winning us points.

He mainly scores in games that we have lost or have already lost.

Not all his fault but he doesnt win us many games even though he has scored 17 times.

Cant be arsed to post all the games and goals crap again if you do a search I have done it once before.

Good Evening, he got two against Bolton from the bench when we were
two nil down, it's not his fault Bentley stood on the goal line doing his hair
and didn't do his job to concede the third!
Seventeen goals speaks for itself, and most fans would replace him with
strikers who have never scored that many in a season...

No-one is arguing how many goals he has scored this season, but simply of the fact that the goals he does score are of little importance.
Lets not forget the fact that he offers us very little as a striker, he is a clinical finisher (most of the time). Now how many can say they would rather Bent over another striker who will score just as many and offer us a lot more to their game.
Pava has scored 14? goals this season, played a lot less games than Bent and already half a Russian season and the Euro's behind him. Now a blind man can see that we play a lot better with Pava on the field simply by what he brings to the team.

fair point - but what do you want him to do?...his job as a striker is to SCORE GOALS - which he is doing.
Do you also want him to take the role of DEFENDER as well???

We are losing matches cos we are letting in goals...which ain't really his fault.

As you said he is a clinical finisher n also 'the goals he does score are of little importance'.

Well of course they would be if 'little importance' if the defenders n midfield are not doing their.

It seems Spurs supporters want an all singing all dancing striker with all the trimmings

Think about it..if you play football AS A STRIKER (at any level) and you were top scorer - it means you are actually doing your job - which is to put them in the back of the net.

These are the games he has scored in in the league.

      31-08-2008 English Premier Chelsea1-1Tottenham1 1 point
      15-09-2008 English Premier Tottenham1-2Aston Villa1 0 points
      19-10-2008 English Premier Stoke2-1Tottenham1 0 points
      26-10-2008 English Premier Tottenham2-0Bolton1 3 points
      29-10-2008 English Premier Arsenal4-4Tottenham1 1 point
      09-11-2008 English Premier Man City1-2Tottenham2 3 points
      31-01-2009 English Premier Bolton3-2Tottenham2 0 points
      15-03-2009 English Premier Aston Villa1-2Tottenham1 3 points
      19-04-2009 English Premier Tottenham1-0Newcastle1 3 points
      25-04-2009 English Premier Man Utd5-2Tottenham1 0 points

Since the last time I did this he has won us 2 games so it does look a lot better than it did. 12 points he has won us this season. Now taking this and last month into consideration it would have been just 8 points form the league this season and that is what I was banging on about.

Now in one respect if you take that 12 points form our tally we would be royally in the brown so that I suppose you have to be thank full for.

Good Evening, this thread is now pretty surreal, do I read it
right, that we need a striker who scores as many as Bent in
a season, but they must be winning goals?
Who is this man we need!?
Bent scored a goal at Old Trafford in the first half on Saturday,
is that a black mark against him, because we did not win?

Get rid, yep hes scored the goals but a Santa Cruz would have bagged as many and all the poxy sitters Bent missed aswell.
If we want to compete we need better than him.
