IN CINEMAS NOW: The Damned Hotspur
A football biopic set in the halcyon days of late '90s England, charting the rise and fall of the (far from) enigmatic George Graham at White Hart Lane.
"Gentlemen, I might as well tell you now... As far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is chuck all your meddles and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest f***ing dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them properly. You've done it all by playing attractive, free-flowing football without a hint of an offside trap."
The Damned Hotspur follows Graham's short-lived spell at Tottenham Hotspur, a club he despises for their pedigree of exciting, ambitious, "pass and move" football.
In his brief stint at the Lane, Graham sees his efforts to introduce his own brand of mind-numbingly boring football to the club thwarted.
Set against a backdrop of bungs, goaless draws and Justin Edinburgh, the Damned Hotspur shows a side of sport rarely seen. And for a very good reason too.
***** Empire "One of the dullest films you will see in 2009."
***** The Independent "I slept like a baby"
***** Heat "I lost the will to live.... Really."
**** Jonathan Ross "This film will have you yawning out loud."
