Rate him!
Hate him!
Cut out the pork pies and brylcream mate, then we'll talk.
A lot of spurs fans think Bentley was an overpriced, imminent flop signing. At 16.5 million, yes he was very expensive - but is it Bentley's fault Comolli overpaid?
Myself - I love seeing Bentley on the pitch. While I may well be shouting RUN YOU FAT PIE EATING TOSSER, I absolutely love watching him on the ball. Yes - he does lose it a lot, but who else in the team has the balls to even try what he does? The goal against the arse, recent long range shots against Manure and Spartak, the numerous amounts of Gascoigne-esque flicks, and little tricks.
Whenever I see him on the ball I'm always expecting a little bit of magic - and as our motto is to dare is to do - I think he is the player at the moment who represents spurs as I see it - capable of magic, but inconsistant at the best of times.
It's players like Bentley that make spurs so amazing to watch, and certainly, I rate him rather than hate him.
I don't hate him, but can't say that I really rate him at the moment either. He is slow, and to be honest, I don't think cutting out the pies will change that much. His delivery of set pieces is a bit hot and cold. Can't make my mind up on him, he has a lot to do to make me feel he is worth his price tag, although as you say, the price we paid is not his fault.

He looks poor on the ball to be honest. I want him to come good. I really do. There are two things that really hack me off about him at the moment.
1. His delivery - which is why we bought him - has been mediocre. Its got better. If you'd asked me the same question two or three weeks ago, I'd have said his delivery has been woeful.
2. His lack of commitment in the tackle. I lost count of the number of times he gave it the half-hearted heave-ho against ManUre last Saturday. I'm not talking here about blood'n'guts slides for a 50:50. I'm talking about the sort of effort he just need to stick his foot in for.
It doesn't help that he's been played left wing for large chunks of the season, although given Lennon's current form, not surprising. Mind you, I reckon Lennon could do a better job than Bentley on the left, maybe giving us more balance. Bizarrely, I thought Bentley's best performance for us was against West Ham when he played..... left wing! Go figure.
Got my fingers crossed. Hope he pulls his finger out!
I don't rate him or hate him either. He has got some talent but he is so inconsitent it makes me think he is just fluking it.
Some times his crosses and style reminds me of Becks. Ihate the way he does the whole I want to look about ronaldo. I loved th goal against the arse.....
A bit more of that please :o)
Spurs, the greatest team the world has ever seen...

I think one of the main problems with bentley is the fact there is often no one to cross a ball to, what with modric up there who isnt the biggest and that only leaves the lone forward up there alot of the times who will be heavily marked.
I think he would excel in a 4-4-2 formation. If he was playing on the flanks with keane and berbatov up front he would look like a completely different player.
hes the reason ihave no hair left he frusrates me so much as i stated before he has all the talent to be a top top player but he simply has no pace at all and thats the thing that has shocked me the most as well as his crosses which have been sh..it mostily i just dont understand the guy he has the opertunity to showcase his skills at the lane because were a little more forgiving of someone who loses the ball while trying something different but 1 game in 6 just is not good enough for me as for the pricetag its thesame as we paid for bent and i think enough said
He's another Jenas, maybe with a bit more natural ability. Good on his day, but not consistent enough to carry us anywhere near the top 4. Hope he proves me wrong but IMO hes lazy, NEVER plays the easy ball (I know, thats not what we bought him for, but sometimes its called for) and he has that AWFUL barnet
To soon to say if he's a flop or not. Ask again in the end of the season.
good point, lets wait and see
When I saw him enter for england against czech I thought, this guy has talent, but he went to great lengths to prove me otherwise. I don't really know what his strengths should be except for crossing and shooting long, but if he has any he hasn't shown them.
I haven't seen a lot to impress yet but I don't hate him. There have been some great moments but not enough. I'd agree with giving him the rest of the season before making a final judgement. I can't help but remember his superman interview after the draw with the scum, he showed he was a yid at heart, he now needs to become one on the pitch.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming it on you ... you probably haven't a clue what's going on!
When Spurs paid 16 mil for Bentley, Keane and Berb were still in the squad. Based on his performance that season with Rovers it seemed like a good idea (although still too much). Now we have Pav or Bent. I firmly believe that Bentley's game reflects the quality of the striker - look at Santa Cruz since Bentley left.
I agree with the comment about the quality of his tackles but he was never a defensive midfielder. He also works best with an attacking defender that can overlap. Bentley most always passes the ball back and runs forward to receive the pass.
His corner kicks are inconsistent though at least 50/50 successful. Is this good enough? His free kicks are still dangerous which is a big part of his talent. His crosses are most often on target and he is a threat in front of goal.
As for the preening...I don't see it. He is a young guy with oodles of confidence (which is what we need) but he has never struck me as being cocky. In his interviews he comes across as a decent bloke with good things to say about others. The business with Ramos had to be said IMO and the proof is in the pudding.

"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."
-Danny Blanchflower
He is ok player, not an extra player. Yes, his main qualites are good crosses, but, IMO if he would improve his worse thing in the game - almost every time he gets the ball he automaticly try to cross with his head down what make his passing game equal to 0 - he would be much better.
