Hello,
I watched the game on telly today and the pundits/commentators kept going on about how terrible it was that the fans 'ironically' cheered Gomes every time he actually made a save or caught the ball. But myself and my companions though this was unfair and that actually the fans were being as supportive as possible by genuinely cheering him when he did something right. Can anyone who was at the game today confirm whether the cheering was ironic or not? Or am I just wearing my rose-tinted glasses and thinking the best of my fellow yids? He needs our support, not sarcasm.
Cheers.
i watch it aswell on tele and think some of the fans were being supportive to build his confidence
I think the former goon alan smith got it right, its something he has to live with he knows himself he has made mistakes, but always in life hopefully you learn from your mistakes.
Clean sheet will do wonders for his confidence, with the new goalkeeping coach he will move on from the clangers and turn out to be a really good keeper.
Has unbelievable tekkers....
I knew he would turn around and I was behind (still am) him since he came.
Woodgateftw, he got that clean sheet you desperately wanted for him. Looks like your prayers paid off.
I thought the cheers were in support but maybe with a hint of relief that could have been misinterpreted at sarcasm. I watched the game on tv and thought that there were plenty of negative comments about us. I never thought, after the sending off, that we were ever in any real danger of conceding, yet the commentary made it seem like we were hanging on. I think also that they forgot we were second from bottom and that in this position you are going to be a little tense and not play the free flowing football they obviously expected.
i thought it was good hearted banter, and apart from one B I G error he played well...
im still nervous like hell when the ball goes into the box thou. i like the man as a man, but as a goalie i want him replaced.
He was cheered every time he touched the ball and there was massive chants of 'We love you Gomes we do, We love you Gomes we Do..........................' And he responded throughout 2nd half and thanked the Park Lane and Shelf Side fans at the end of the game.
With our support he will get his confidence back.

WE'RE THE PARK LANE
WE ARE N17
They did briefly show him go to the fans at the end of the game on tv, yet strangely no one mentioned it!
They sounded extremely ironic to me which isnt helpfull tbh, the chants of we love you Gomes was done to cancel the negatives i reckon.
F*ck Stratford!!!!
You can see a big difference in Gomes and we just have to get behind him because he will show how good he is once he is more confident and our fans are fully behind him!![]()
I have a ticket for Everton next week and will certainly be cheering him in the correct fashion. I hope that the cheers from people around me will be the same. I would not like to hear anyone jeering or sarcastically cheering. You have been warned GGGGRRRRR!!
Please shoot at the ones who seem to be jeering sarcastically in behalf of me...

ParklaneMal, are you suggesting that the tv commentators/pundits are full of ****e?? I thought it unlike us to be like this and am glad to hear from the horses mouth, as it were, that I was right.
Well as long as they are supporting him because it will do the world of good![]()
