my view is weve got to get rid in january and get someone who can catch the hot potato
In, but with some reservation. Got to come good very soon. Listened to the game yesterday on BBC radio London and they said if it had not been for that howler, he would have had an excellent game. I'm yet to the highlights.
But lets not talk of selling him in the January Sales, as that was said by many regarding Darren Bent. Now he is on a good run and back in the England Squad.
WE'RE THE PARK LANE
WE ARE N17
Get this hideous clown gone hes costing us points simple as that, we could have possibley got a point at Fulham if it wernt for this latest embarrasment between the sticks for us!
He made the game against Liverpool nervy when it shouldnt have been, his punchng and decision making are school boy, go back to PSV mate.
Harry says he has his backing but that surely is a smoke screen until January where im sure hel go back for David James.
F*ck Stratford!!!!
He might be a lovely chap but hes bloomin hopeless in the area - get rid before we have another Robinson season !!
listen, I don't totally disagree with what's being said in this thread but nothing is going to happen at least until January. Harry has already said he is going to stick with Gomes so we have to face it, for the next 2 months he is our first team goalie whether we like it or not.
So what's the point in giving him grief? Its only going to make him worse &, so long as he wears a Spurs shirt, I do not believe in humiliating him. He knows when he makes a mistake. If by cheering him we get a slight improvement & help him find his groove what's the harm? That is what 'support' means & as 'supporters' we have that duty otherwise what can we call ourselves?
We can always give him s**t & say how rubbish he was once he's left the club. I know that if he screws up people will say that we have the right to tell him that it's not good enough but don't you think he knows that already? Do you really think that after his mistake against Fulham he was thinking 'Nevermind, I did OK there, it was Woodgate's fault really!", of course not & it was clear that he was punishing himself for the mistake. I appreciate that.
When he makes a howler I don't find it easy to get behind him & not give him abuse but I realise that it doesn't help the situation. As much as I would like to let my feelings be known, I'm a Spurs fan & have a duty to help get the best out of my team. While being critical of a team performance might be valid in some circumstances I thoroughly believe that picking on individuals can only be detrimental to the team.
If a striker makes a shocking mistake that costs us a goal he can redeem himself by scoring at the other end (like Darren Bent did against Chelsea) but a goalie can only really redeem himself by producing a great save that he really shouldn't have reached. Gomes did that more than once against Fulham & had no right to reach that Bullard free-kick. He has not been great by any standards recently but its all too easy to make him the scapegoat for our loss at the Cottage. At the end of the day, the team played cr*p yesterday & we did not deserve anything from the game & it has nothing to do with any 1 individual.

harry obviously has no confidence in him wen he clearly admitted that he's stuck with him cause all he has otherwise is a 37 year old spanish lad and some kids! id love to see the guy turn it around but once a keeper loses confidence and his centre lose confidence in him its a long hard struggle to get it right again and i cant see that happening before january......shay given, ben foster, chris kirkland hell even david james are all good keepers and i dont think it would be impossible to get any of them!
It's impossible to get James & Foster. Forget them both. Given or Kirkland or Hennessy however are all possibilities. i don't get why Harry used Cesar's age as an excuse , he's younger than James!

I think me and basskadet are the only ones on this forum who believe in Gomes. If we start cheering for Gomes and give him confidence we will see results, at his previous team (PSV) he was cheered every game and thats how he played so well but at Spurs we just cheer for ones who we see results from but we cant whenever we dont cheer at them and give them a dam chance!!!
mate he has been cheered all season and he just seems to be getting worse....i dont like to see any of our players hung out to dry but he's just putting us through the same as robbo did....wen are we gonna get someone reliable between the sticks???
I do think he's a good keeper but I also realise that he isn't reproducing that yet at Spurs for whatever reason. I also understand that it cannot continue &, if he doesn't turn it round by January, he's got to go. However, I do really want him to succeed & he therefore has just 2 months to do so. I think we need to do everything within our power to help him achieve a change in form that will effectively be beneficial to our club. If he can't tho. . . goodbye Gomes.

I am with Basskadet, it does seem as though he is going to be our number one for at least 2 months so I guess it makes sense to get right behind him and not do anything to contribute to his lack of confidence.
What you have to understand Woodgateftw is that people are not hoping he fails, we want him to be great for us, but feel at the moment for whatever reason he is causing us problems. As I stated earlier I commend you for your unconditional support of the guy, but even you must agree that something has to change, hopefully his form but if not then the change will have to be him.
No one is giving him grief in the stadium other than the away fans from i have seen live and on the box and i doubt very much he looks at this forum so whats the problem with paying fans expressing at just how bad this guy really is, deny it all you want if you beleive hes a good keeper thats your own blind faith.
He did cost us a point yesterday it would surely have ended 1 all which if i remember correctly equates to a point gained.
Your right while were still 8 weeks away from January then unfortunetly he is our number one but that doesnt mean we have to like it.
As for the saves he made hes bloody paid to make them isnt he? hes erratic, overatted and once again in our team, another Commoli crap buy.
F*ck Stratford!!!!
I'm not saying that anyone is giving him grief, just saying that we need to try & continue not to. Sentiments on the forum suggest that people are starting to think otherwise tho & I just mean to try & back up our support.
Your comment tho that he is paid to make saves is ridiculous tho. He made a couple of world class saves that he should be commended for. When David Bentley scored against Arsenal from 40 Yds did you say "well, he's paid to score". Give the guy credit where credit is due.
However, his mistake did cost us a point, I'll go along with that but I won't go so far as to say he himself, over the 90min, was the reason we lost. We deserved to get nothing from the game & that is because the team failed to perform to their recent high standards. Even Ledders had a stinker & he made 1 or 2 equally horrendous errors & was hugely lucky not to have ben punished for them.

So just what is he paid for FFS? I thought a goal keeper was employed to the last line of defense and to "make saves" or is that a ridiculous statement ive made ie saving the ball from hitting the back of the net is just a bonus.
Davis Bently isnt a striker so no one expects him to score too many goals so that arguement is floored, listen mate if your happy with a goal keeper that the back four have absolutely zero confidence in as we can all plainly see when they look to put the ball out of play rather than pass back to him.
You got your view i have mine.
F*ck Stratford!!!!
Gomes is top draw but again we have destroyed decent keeper!!!
He 100% needs dropping to either: -
A) Give him a kick up the arse
B) Give him time to recover his form
He is costing us points and has made poor decisions and mistakes for the last month or so. It is his job to stop shots and stop goals going in so if he doesnt do his cob consistantly he wont succeed.
If for that the fans get on his back he has only got himself to blame. If he cant cut it then he should man up and slap a transfer request in to go back to the traveling circus with the circus master and his bunch of traveling clowns.
