Charlie is a product of our academy & he really looks to be progressing well. He's listed as a left-sided defender/midfielder so is similar to Gareth Bale. He's 22 now & played a stormer for our reserves the other night against the Hammers, scoring both our goals. His second was an absolutely beautiful individual effort. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing him make his 1st team debut?
      King and Bongani,

So Levy has got let us know

He shares the same name as the bloke who recorded 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia'.
Perhaps we could change the words of the song to 'The Devil went down to West Ham He was looking for a goal to steal.
Whoops, got carried away there but the name Charlie Daniels just oozes star quality.

Sorry mate, but if he's 22 and playing for reserves then he isn't really the top stuff.

I was thinking the same thing, Essex. The Charlie Daniels I know is a whiskey drinking SOB from the deep south here in the States, who plays what we call Southern Rock, and yes the famed Devil Went Down to Georgia! Great song, too. Not to get off subject...

True, but his career only started when he joined our academy at 18. Some of these young stars that break into the 1st 11 at under 20 have been playing with clubs since they were 10 & become pro at like 15. I guess you can say he's come late to the party, I don't know why. However, he's definitely a good young player but if he doesn't start getting into the first team this year then time will be running out for the lad.

in the time he's been with us he's spent 2 seasons out on loan to Leyton & then Chesterfield before a knee injury in the 2006-7 season that slowed his progression also. However, he's back with us now & looks to be on form, that's why i think this could be his year & may be a name to keep an eye on.

I disagree, He joined when he was 18, went on loan for a season at Orient where he did very well when he was 19-20, then went on loan to Chesterfield for a season when he was 20-21 where he did well but picked up an injury, hence he has not had a chance. My point is, this is when he should be breaking into the 1st 11 so watch this space.

The fact that Bostock just played for us at 16 & he hasn't yet doesn't mean anything. Bostock played in the same ressies game as Daniels against the Hammers but Daniels was on fire! he may not be the real deal but I think he may well get his chance, & soon.

Isn't it a bit much to say the kid's past it already? Late bloomer anyone?
Sure, there aren't too many famous late bloomers - Luca Toni is the only one coming to mind right now - but age won't necessarily stop the bloke getting quality.
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

Graham Roberts was 24 when he joined us from Weymouth and I also believe Vinny Jones was a late starter when he joined the Wombles from Wealdstone (I think that was the club. Please correct me if I've cocked it up). Both blayers became influential for their clubs.

i would say its harsh to write a player of at 22. thats still young when you consider most players play on into their 30s. Granted ive never seen charlie Daniels play but spurs obviously rate him else he wouldnt be on the list. also as a left footer (I assume hes a leftie) would be in his favour.

2 players i can think of that reached their potential at a later age are jimmy bullard and tim cahill - im sure there are plenty of others
