I would be interested to know eveyones thoughts on the uefa cup as competition and how much longer it will continue. We all know that the Champions League goes from strength to strength but where does that leave the uefa cup i ask this because crowd attendances last night show theres very little interest in the competition. Last night our crowd was 16,295 which you`d think is a disappointment but compare that to the San Siro where just 10,000 saw Ac Milan beat Braga 1-0. If this current trend continues surely it will become the equivalent of the Carling Cup and yes i know we won it last year but compare it to the fa cup and for me there is no comparison. I know some may point to the current financial climate but if the fans are n`t going through the turnstiles a shake up will obviously be on the cards.![]()
dont think they will scrap it.....it is still a big competition for the clubs outside the champions league! people just cant afford the ticket prices! i know they are changing the set up next year or the year after! in my opinion it would be more worth while if it was knock out from start to finish and the champions league should be the same but obviously with it there is too much tv money in it to even consider it!
The attendence was 32,788. Not sure about only 16K. Still a massive comp, COYS
gotta admit it looked more than 16k for me but i just took the guys word for it lol cant imagine us ever having a half full stadium no matter wat!
I think this 2 games at home 2 games away league is a nonsense - be much better as an old knock out competition like the old days!
Spurs website gives attendance at 32,788. Where'd you get your figures from Leggy?
The UEFA cup is a MASSIVE competition, just look what it did for Zenit last year & Sevilla the years before that. Sure it exists in the shadow of the Champions League but as it progresses the teams exiting from that comp join in UEFA. While it makes the competition more difficult it is often seen as a consolation by fans of those clubs who had been competing in the CL. Hence the low attendance for the Milan game who obviously feel they deserve to be in the more prestigious competition.
At the end of the day, winning the UEFA cup can bring instant fame & riches to clubs which arguably makes it a more important footballing comp than CL & therefore UEFA would never ditch it.

It's true never believe anything you read in the Sun, I couldn't believe it when they had the crowd at 16,295,I don't read itI found it on the tube when I was catching it to Seven Sisters.
I also saw the 16thousandandsomething number last night but thought that it had to be a mistake.
But regarding the UEFA Cup I really am torn. I must admit that I don't like this format. It was much, much better when it was a knock-out competition from the beginning. Frankly these days I am looking forward to our games in the domestic cups more than our games in the UEFA Cup. And that has a lot to do with the structure of the UEFA Cup today. So I say bring back the knock-out competition so you can't scrape through to the next round with maybe just one victory and one draw. A home and an away game against the same team is much more interesting than the way it is now.
Are they not re-formatting it to make it like the CL?
Yeah. They're revamping it basically to make it like the CL with new sponsors, tv rights, and all that stuff.
here's a link
uefa.com
"UEFA's ambition in making all these changes is to rejuvenate the competition in the light of the new European football landscape, which has shifted significantly with the continued success of the UEFA Champions League, so that the UEFA Europa League can establish itself as a major competition."

Sorry chaps reguarding the attendance figure i read it in a few papers it was 16,000 i am only too pleased to admit i was wrong unless the 16,000 was a Levy tax fiddle lol![]()
if spurs were to go all the way it would be a massive competition
