If you could pick a midfield from any living Spurs player from the last 25 years, how many of todays midfield would make the starting line up?
I know for me I would have to have Gazza, Hoddle & Waddle and probably Ossie or Villa (I think he only just qualifies).
I would have Perryman any day of the week over Zokora or Huddlestone.
It maybe to early to tell for the likes of Bentley & Modric and I sincerely hope that they do emulate past masters but as of right now, despite all the fuss made over the exciting talent in our new look midfield, none of them would make my team sheet.
Who would you have?
Really can't stray too far from that selection. The one I would throw in as a very real contender is Ginola. But then, Chrissy Waddle was (still is) my favourite player of Spurs of all time, so I just couldn't bring myself to displace him. That despite Ginola beating the whole Barnsley team, or crashing in a volley from thirty yards against Leeds, or single-handedly putting us in a position to beat Liverpool only to then display his utter frustration as his team mates let him down after being subbed.
Ah, some of those memories.....
This is true, Ginola would definitely be up there which begs the question, would any of the current line up even make the bench?
No..........Not yet.
That infamous word crops up again...........Potential.
Bloody potential when will it be realised and we have the worlds best players at the lane?
Poyet? I know he played for those ****ers but he has to be up there.
POYET.............nah mate im too sure that we saw the best of poyet in a spurs shirt to be labled in such a group of legends.............. did not show eneogh heart for me when the chips where down
Cooooooome ooooooooon uuuuuuu spuuuuuuuurz
arty:
Nicky Barmby & Darren Anderton would have to be up there also but would i have them over Modric/Bentley? I'm not so sure.
I'm a big fan of all 4 players but, if they perform well this season, Luka & David could certainly move above them in my estimation, certainly on par.
Not a chance mate. Not a chance!
Sicknote and the boy from Hull simply could not get a look-in when we talk about the likes of Hoddle, Waddle, Gascoigne, Ardiles, Ginola.
In fact, I remember a game against Wednesday at The Lane when Waddle returned. Never seen a reception like it for any returning player. We had signed Anderton by then. He was rubbish. Waddle, on the other hand, was great. A bloke near me couldn't resist - and I had to agree with him - shouting down - "Oi, Anderton! That's what a winger does!", in reference to the performance that Waddle had put in.
One Chrissy Waddle! There's only one Chrissy Waddle!
darren anderton lol
guy had some long a** legs. me and my family called him daddy long legs lol
Mate, I wouldn't suggest for a minute they'd come close as to my original line up. More as competition for our current midfield. That was kind of my point. Anderton was a long way off a 'great' but he did have a good eye for a pass and scored a few corkers!
I always thought Barmby was quality for us. He wouldn't get a look-in with gazza, waddle, hoddle, etc, but might be on my bench.
Also, with regards to Ginola while he was amazing at Spurs he wasn't really quite with us for long enough to challenge the Wadd.
Its such a shame Hoddle & Ossie left WHL when they did (although they were starting to get on a bit, especially Ossie). If they'd stayed just 1 more year we could have more or less witnessed that midfield when Gazza arrived.
You know, I'd forgotten how often Anderton spent injured! He was the original Tottenham sicknote innit!

he seemed to be injured every game, i cpuld never get over how tall his legs were though lol
Apparently he now uses those legs to prop up bars around Bournemouth. Fancies himself as a bit of a ladies man!
Leaving that aside, I never thought he was anywhere near good enough at Spurs. Never recreated the sort of form he had displayed at Pompey, and was always better for England than he was for Spurs! Kind of the exact opposite to Steve McManaman.
That's probably true
Barmby on the other hand had his best years at Spurs in my opinion & I was sad when he left. You just felt he was ever so slightly short of becoming a 'great' but he was consistently 'good' & every so often produced some real quality. I'm looking forward to welcoming him back to the Lane on Oct 5th.

Its really difficult to compare different players for different decades. However, besides the obvious that's already been mentioned:
Klinsmann or Greavsie, probably with Teddy as well
Danny Blanchflower
Dave McKay in defence.
Pat Jennings (even if did play for the scum as well)
A few that come to mind anyway. Always had to think back, probably a few i've missed.

Blanchflower could've probably done a job in midfield, yeah, but he is dearly departed!
Can't really see any of the others competing for a midfield spot though.![]()
