Here's a great interview with a true legend of the Lane! Chrissy Waddle (as seen in my Avatar looking funky)!
He make's some really interesting points that I think deserve discussion.
Things like are we in danger of becoming a feeder club?
and the club needs stability, from both players & management. Until we get people willing to stay at the club for 4-5 years consistency will always be a problem. Can you see Ramos being the one who achieves that?
Anyway watch it, he raises some good issues.

I wish he could come back and play in this midfield we have now!
Good points made by the Wad. Agree with most, if not all of them.
I feel we'll finish 5th/6th this season. Also I think its inevitable if we convince great players to come here like GDS/Berbatov/whoever, that the more we are out of the top 4, then the more players will use us a staging to get there.

I have to say though, I think it a little premature suggesting we are a 'feeder club'. Keane was at Spurs for a good 5 years and only left us because it was his boyhood club.
He's really making those comments because of Berba's situation but there will always be speculation around a player if they have a good season, no matter what the club. Just look at Ronaldo. Does him going to Real make Man U a 'feeder club'? We only become a feeder club if we are unable to replace such talent with equal talent. He is right in another sense tho. Until we start consistently achieving & moving forwards players of quality will not settle at the club.
i dont agree that we could be waiting 10 years to challenge the top 4 or to create a successful and balanced team .
i do agree we need stability to succeed .

I didn't say we were a major feeder club, but its something to be concerned about. Keane isn't an example, but we have Berbatov and Carrick as examples. United have also have eyes on Lennon as well, particularly if Ronaldo goes at end of the next Season. If we aren't careful the likes of GDS, Bentley, Modric, etc will follow.

i tend to disagree i think we are increasingly seen as a feeder club to the top 4 and im not happy about it .
can you imagine what position we will be in if berbs goes to utd ? levy needs to get a deal done with barca and give the top 4 in this country no more players ( regardless of any financial incentives)
were did you hear that utd have shown an interest in lennon ?

No specific hard rumours but Ferguson likes him, he's made that clear in the past pretty much how he's dealt with Berbatov.

i except waddle is a spurs legend and his opinion matters and all that .....

Actually, yes. Although it was only Burnley. Shame, as I had the inkling that he would make a good manager.
I loved an interview in which he once stated that while Burnley manager, players would piss and moan about the ratings they got in the papers after a match. They'd say how the journalist knew nothing and had no idea about football so how could they possibly only give them a '6'? Then, if Waddle dropped one for a game, the player would pull out the same paper and say - "Yeah, but I got a '9' in last week's paper. How can you drop me?".![]()
I agree with some of Waddles point but some are unjust.
He needs to realise this in the new way of football. Loyalty is near enough long gone, with players chasing the ever rising wages etc etc. The only loyaly I can see ever continuing is with a team the player originally supported (cue Robbie Keane).
It's up to the club to get themselves in a position that makes them favorable to play for. Champions league, Uefa cup, good wages, great bonuses, good team spirit. Whatever rocks the players boat.
I don't see spurs turning into a feeder club at all. And if we ever was to it would be feeding our unwanted players to lower positioned teams.
Robbie left for Liverpool cos they are his boyhood team. Berba wants Man Utd football (we think) because he has no love for Spurs and wants to complete his career. He wont ever get to a World cup final, he wants Champs footie.
Hardly feeding bigger teams are we. We're not preeming players for the big teams.
As for the overhaul of players this year. Every fan that went to a game this year will tell it is was needed. We need to sell to buy, every club does (except the Chelsea!) as we balance books. Were on teh stock market. We cant push through 200million pound loses at the end of the financial year.
The only worry I have is the amount of money we are dishing out....I really dont wanna be the next Leeds Utd!
The Ramos Revolution has begun!

good post Lic you made some good points and welcome to the Board
With our tight wage structure we shouldnt end up like Leeds.
We do however need to relax/up it a little to attract the bigest stars.
Once we have them we need to win things consistantly and develop our international brand to keep revenew turnover increased year on year.
