Goal.com - Editorial - English Debate: Are Spurs About To Overtake Arsenal?
Nice read and and in depth look at our Quest for the top 4
Mersey Spurs (04-08-2008)
Interesting read. I have to say if we are to break into the top 4 it is more likely to be at the expense of Liverpool IMO. They seem to me to be more vunrable than LeArse even with our ex vice captain amongst their ranks. I must say however that i feel top 4 is beyond us this coming season. We need a season for the squad to settle then we can push. Shoot me down for writing this but lets not let a few preseason friendlies and new signings cloud our judgement. I have seen to many false dawns to get too excited at this stage. Boro away on the 16th is our biggest test then lets take every game as it comes!!!
COYS!!
If we start confidently and are lucky with injuries there is no reason why we cant do it.
But i also agree that with the major overhaul we have experianced we should be a little cautious about our ambitions this coming season. We need a solid performance and a decent run in europr. I would be over the moon with a top 6 finish and a Eueafa quater/semi final being realistic. Also a home win against those d!ck heads from Woolwich would be nice.
Then next season we can kick on and deminate the league and all domestic cups in preperation for our way to glory the season after in the Champions League.
DONE!!!
Top 6 this year with a UEFA cup win and maybe a decent domestic cup run should be an acheivable target this year.
I think we still need 2-3 excellent squad players to push into 4th
Of course I hope that Spurs will achieve a top 4 breakthrough season, but I think that it might be too soon a season.
I think a top 6 finish with a cup (or two!) would be improvement.
One thing I think that might cause us to drop points is a midfield that not only creates & excites, but also 'bites'. Once we have that, then we should begin to improve our away games dismal haul.
If Jenas can be the midfield general, then there would be more hope. At the moment, Jenas, Hud & Zok don't have the all-round game to be the enforcer type of midfield.
The fact that we are leaking goals to Norwich & Leyton Orient in friendlies says it all. Until then, no top 4 for Spurs.
the goal vs. Norwich was only because King Slipped but im not sure about the Orient game
