We bought Gareth Bale from Southampton but 1 year ago for a paltry £5 million (although it will probably rise to just under £10 million eventually). However, after yesterday's match with Celtic , Gordon Strachan was quoted saying
" then the left-back Gareth Bale comes on and he's worth £12m"
£12m! That was a quick £7m in our pockets!
He then went on to say that if Juande had all his best players, Modric, Bentley, etc taken away from him and was told to go and challenge in the Champion's League, he would just laugh at you. Well I'm not sure he would because, as I've already mentioned in another post, Spurs have cleverly orchestrated the signing of all those great players by selling the average ones we had before for massive profits. Gordon was whining saying, "we just have to make do with what we have and make our own players better". Yes, well, we do that at Spurs also, hence his comment about Gareth. Lennon, Huddlestone, Dawson, Jenas and many others were not bought for big money as big players but are becoming them because of their time at Tottenham.
So stop whinging Gordon and learn something from what Levy & Ramos have done in the last 10 months.

He wont even cost us £10 million due to southampton forfeiting part of the fee
The guardian 24th july
"Southampton were recently forced to forfeit part of the transfer fee owed by Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale in a bid to ease their monetary problems. Rather than accept the performance-related payments they were due after Bale's £5m transfer to the north London club, they accepted an earlier settlement to allow goalkeeper Tommy Forecast to join the depleted squad at St Mary's. The Saints struck a similar deal last year when they gave up a reported £2.9m owed for the transfer of Theo Walcott to Arsenal."
I looked at our signings and it seems we have sold 11 players so far which as we all know is a football team, Im sure we could lose a few more but back on topic, it is clever how ramos has sold 11 good to average (discounting keane) players and gotten us a few players that will undoubtedly give us the edge to break the top 4.
martin your right 11 is a team thats why i think its going to be difficult to break the top 4
unless we get a flier of a start it might take this year to groom the team so many changes
but they do seem to be better signings as i keep saying the top 4 is up for grabs back to
the topic bale has improved dont know about 7 mill though needs another season
This bit made me laugh. Whats that got to do with anything? If Celtic were in the Premier League they wouldn't need to worry about Champions League football!
If you took away all ManU's best players I'd say they'd struggle in the Champions league.
See, anyone can make up stupid comments![]()
"It's no use just winning, we've got to win well."
that comment didn't really make any sense to me either no one would be able to win CL without all of their best players
