I read on some crappy websites numerous articles that put David Bentley's claim of being a Spurs fan into question. Basically, they were trying to imply that he initially wanted a move to a top 4 club but when no-one went for him except for us, he suddenly decided he was a Spurs fan. One article took the piss by suggesting that Pavlyuchenko is also a boyhood Spurs fan and had "I love Tottenham Rovers" tattoed on his arm. If that's not a blatant pot-shot at Bentley then I don't know what is. The other said that on one of his websites Bentley was quoted to have said "I'm a Manchester United fan. My dad took to see them and I like the way they play" or something like that. Well its all cack. The lad is and has always been a Spurs fan and anyone who is in any doubt should take a glance at this article in The Sun that was written not long after his original transfer to Blackburn and WELL before Spurs were even remotely interested in him:
I'll beat Arsenal for Spurs fans | The Sun |Sport|Football
Strange I WATCHED him on sky sports news the day he signed for us and he said in that interview that "spurs had a place in his heart" and "all his friends were season ticket holders" also "spurs were the first team he ever watched" and he said something about gazza being his hero but lets be honest the bloke is a legend so im sure many scum and chav fans idolised gazza, My sister had a thing for him and she (god only knows why) is a manure fan!?.
At no point in that interview did he claim to support spurs, just because its written doesnt make it true mate watch il prove "my names arsene wenger and as a child I supported tottenham hotspurs" Doesnt mattter who it is thats writting it they can always mis quote or blattently lie about what a person has said, wait until you hear it from the horses mouth.
It doesnt matter who he supports as he gets payed by us and as long as he does his job Il be happy.
No where in that article does bentley himself claim to support spurs, he says he grew up in a spurs supporting area and that his agent supports spurs not that he does.

does it matter if he spurs fan or not it helps look at keano he played with heart and passion
he was not a spurs fan but bet will always love our club because of his experience at the club
bently wants to better himself and has talent and spurs is in his life since a kid so when he
becomes a spurs legend ( i hope he does ) it will come from the horses mouth all i know is he does want to do well for spurs
That's a very good point. however, the article still proves that his story ain't changed, whoever he supports, which is what certain members of the press are suggesting.
Martin beat me to it. He never said he's a Spurs fan, but grew up in an area with Spurs fans (I know the area, Cheshunt, and it is a big Spurs area)
I find this quote quite interesting though:
I don't really car where someone's been though. I wern't one of those tearing up his season ticket when George Graham joined us. Its silly that this is even an issue to be honest. He's here, we should all try to get behind him and hope for the best.“I will always be grateful for what they did for me. I have great respect for Arsene Wenger and you honestly could not find a better place to go to work each day.

Who really cares who his team were, he cleary said he admired Tottenham as a kid so thats good enough for me, theres some really odd stuff about at the mo like minor detail abut players and transfer fees ect...............Just concentrate on the coming season and who will start for the Spurs, the rest is just bollox.
