Steven Pienaar makes a surprise appearance on the injury list!!!!
..........not![]()
Following scans and consultation with an independent groin specialist, Steven Pienaar underwent groin surgery this morning (Tuesday, August 9).
The South Africa international was forced off with the injury in the first half of Saturday's pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao and is expected to be sidelined with the injury for up to six weeks.
I'm thinking we need a winger ASAP. Not a back-up like Pienaar, like someone who can rotate with Bale and Lennon. I'm surprised no one else on here is as worried- say Bale (injury prone) or Lennon goes down. What now? Play Bentley? Play Niko out of position, when he's clearly not a winger? No. We need a good, tricky, fast, back-up winger/striker. And I think by our most recent targets 'Arry realizes it too. Here's hoping we get one.
I suppose when it comes to the biggest mugging carried out in Tottenham over the last 12 months it was when Everton sold Pienaar to us.
They're both wasted there IMO. One thing I was thinking, regarding VDV out wide, we could try some kind of crazy 4-3-3 thing with inverted wingers if Bale was out- normal back 4 except play walker, then put Modric, Sandro, and Hudd (or Diarra if we sign him) in midfield then put Lennon left, VDV right, new striker in the middle. I know Lennon isn't as effective higher up the pitch but remember against Arsenal? he played really well there as a left winger. Just an idea...
Yeah it's not ideal, but if we only had to do it for two/three games or so then it wouldn't be a disaster. If we had to do it for half a season though we'd have a problem.
Shame Gervinho went to Arsenal, he would have been perfect because he can play on the wing or up front.![]()
