From a poster on another Spurs forum, thought it was worth posting as it seems genuine and there really hasnt been any kind of update in regards to the injury.

As the title says....pitch of salt added.

"Just got an update about Gareth's injury. It's a grade 1 tear and he could of played today but wouldn't then of been fit for the Real Madrid game so good news for us. The new contract extension has a buy out clause added to it so that Gareth has more control over if and when he goes. Having said that, however, he is absolutely loving it at Tottenham and has no plans to go anywhere at the moment but it does all depend on us staying in the CL.He loves the lads and the life he has and wants to stay at Spurs so lets just make sure we qualify again"

Another poster who has a good reputation on the site said this

"I've heard there is no tear, just a little bit of fluid in the muscle and a slight strain. But also that he could've played today.
As for the contract, I have no idea. But if there is a buyout clause, it'll be like a Spanish one, namely, obscene.
And like I've said a million times, I'd bet a lot of money that even if we finish fifth or six, Bale won't leave this summer."

This (pinch of salt taken) is the reason why I think we should now forget about the CL. Look, there, I have said it.

I have skirted with the issue ever since the draw was announced, but now we have much much more important games and none of them will be in Spain.

They will all be in shit old blighty.

Soz yids I know this will be a hugely controversial statement to make but this is what I think.

    3. These users same thanks for this post

I can respect that and I've always felt that this season the league was and is the priority for us. Wherever we finish in the CL is a bonus but I do think having made the competition that we shouldnt take it lightly and the further we progress the further it may hinder our league position. Fook knows what will happen if we reach the final but are a few points off 4th, everyone on here will be shitting themselves.

Good to hear that his injury isn't too serious.

Interesting to hear about his buy out clause as well...

Actually I could not agree more.

We need to concentrate on securing the future of THFC not the present.

A regular top 4 finish is essential if we are to compete in the long term.
Going to a Spurs game? Why not try and meet up with a few of your fellow posters. http://www.tottenhamhotspurs.tv/forum/meets/

I think most fans would agree, but when 'arry was asked if he would rather get to the champions league final or finish in the top 4 he gave one of those polition answers which I interpret as him making the champions league a priority. I may be wrong, but I think 'Azza will be rested against Wigan, same with Bale and maybe VdV especially if Spain have off. (Plus he will probably be hoping Capello doesn't play any Spurs lads (except Walker) during our pointless friendly on Tuesday).

I can see Harry really going for the CL if we get past RM, and I wouldnt want to risk Bale/VDV/Azza/Gallas on what Wigan call their "pitch".

Basically agree with Unit, but I do think either way that it's important not to completely lay an egg against Madrid.

We've already seen that we're not breaking the bank for signings, so even if we do get fourth, it will be more difficult to bring in the kind of boys that can really help if we get humiliated due to failing to put out our best team (not necessarily our best players) on a global stage. Because if we grab fourth this year, we'll have exactly the same dilemma next season.

Bit surprised about some of these posts to be honest...

Football is about glory. It's about silverware, glorious moments, shocks - basically our Champions League campaign.

IMAGINE the Lane is we beat Real Madrid. It would absolutely electric and a night that none of us would ever forget.

It's games like that which are the reason we watch and love football. We might not be Champions League regulars for the next 20 years so lets enjoy it and do everything we can to grasp this amazing opportunity!

I think everybody's excited for the Madrid tie, I know I certainly am.

I just think that we are really in the middle of a multi-year project that can eventually see us in these kinds of events on a regular basis, and that project, quite frankly, depends on us finishing fourth.

I guess I'm excited for the Madrid matchup, but nervous for the run in in the PL.

Of course, but if we don't finish 4th this season we can still do it next season. We aren't going to be worse next season than this. If you offer me a win over Wigan or a win over Real Madrid I know which one I'd choose...

Ok then mate - totally hyperthetical and silly question but:

What would you choose - a win over Madrid home and away to set up a game in the semis with Barca

      or

Beating City again away from home to clinch 4th

There is no meaning behind this question just asking out of interest

Then I'd choose beating City - because I don't think we'd stand a chance against Barca

I'd take the win and progressing to Barca. Can't win a trophy finishing 4th every year and if we get to Barca then there is still a possibility of a trophy for the season. Rightly so with the logic to an extent but a lot of people seem to be getting this Scum mentality that finishing 4th or better to get in the CL will bring you trophys. Well we know that isn't the case because they are going on 6 years without one. I would we try our best to get a trophy in CL this season than crap out and just finish 3rd or 4th to get back in CL like the Scum.

That being said, i wouldn't be too upset if we lost to madrid but still qualified for next year either assuming we put in a better effort than this season to win the thing.

      Sexiest Spurs Fan!!!
