"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."
-Danny Blanchflower, Ex-Spurs Captain
Unconvincing 2-1 victory against a Swiss side that wasn't at full strength, at home. Beckham dropped. Owen doesn't play. Its a disgrace. He should go. :32:
Hearing some of the comments on the BBC commentary I wondered just how much they actually know about football. Stuff like - they aren't used to this system..... No! Really? Its his first game in charge. Of course they're not bloody used to it! I, for one, think Capello will come good for England.
I think Capello will come good for England as well.
I didn't see the game due to work but have just caught the hi-lights and it looked pretty dire, JJ did look like the best player on the park and you would have thought that the rest of them would have been going all out to impress the new manager, having only seen the hi-lights i would say that it was just a victory, nothing to shout about really when you consider that we should be beating teams like that without breaking sweat, Rooney had one of those night where he couldn't hit a buffalo's arse with a banjo but on another night he could have had a hat-trick.
This is just a win, nothing more, nothing less, Capello will know where improvements need to be made and he needs to get them sorted before world cup qualifying starts, we can't afford to miss out on another major tournament.
Yep same old, same old
Watched the first half (well done JJ) then decided it would be more fun to stick needles in my eyes.
On another point, why exactly do the BBC need 4 half time "experts" to tell us what is going on?
Has Ian Wright ever actually said anything insightful about a game? Please enlighten me if you can remember anything. :27:
What exactly did we expect? We haven't been good enough for a long time, we didn't qualify for Euro 2008. Did anyone really think we were suddenly going to be worldbeaters? I thought the performance was reasonable. Motty and Lawro were clueless.
Wake up and smell the coffee...
The sooner Motson is put out to pasture the better.Motty and Lawro were clueless.
Lawro is a comedy legend (in his own mind).
Quote of the night, without a doubt - "Softly softly, catchy monkey". :32:Originally Posted by Old Yid

The thing that pi$$e$ me off is the Media, Pundits and commentators.......It took a WHOLE 3 SECONDS last night to mention 196(bloody)6....We get it England wore red shirts when they won the world cup.
Anyway thought JJ did play well as did J.Cole and Bentley rest were average at best.
PS dont be shy to ask how to beat your next opponents theres nothing to it :29: :32:
I agree that Motty needs putting out to pasture, along with most of the pundits that cover the international games, Lawrenson as a commentator is just a complete prat who just utters absolute rubbish and his punditry on match of the day just gets on your nerves.
