Hey guys/gals,
Long time Spurs supporter, first time poster.
I was reading this article:
Is this World Cup really promoting Fair Play? » The Roar - Your Sports Opinion
and i wondered if breaking the rule on purpose was fair play?
What do u guys reckon?
welcome to the forum, BTW....
It is no cheating he just played game. He saved goal from line and got red card while Ghana got penalty. No cheating here just playing game by rules.
I know many will disagree with me so I ask you is there cheating on this video

panem et circenses
I disagree with Cor-Luka. I think it is cheating. Mind you, I have come to expect this sort of thing from Uruguay, having watched their performances for many years now. Personally, I think in a situation such as that of Uruguay's Luis Suarez's hand ball in the Ghana game, the goal should be awarded and the player red carded, as it would have been a clear goal.
Rules are there to be followed so that both teams could have a chance of winning.,,.
at the end of the day he broke a rule and he was punished for it. He knew what the consequences were he evaluated and he did it. At the end of the day you cant stop him from doing it and if they did change the rule that the goal would count and the player would be red carded then ofc he wouldnt have done it.
But at the end of the day when you're out playing for a team you will do anything to win. I play for a football team and this year we won the league- we won it by 2 points. First game of the season we were drawing 1-1 with a minute to go i got the ball ran into the box and took a dive. The ref awarded the penalty and we won the game 2-1. Of course the other team was upset but it's just another part of the game, decieving the ref. I look back and think would we have won our league if i hadnt have dived i think well we won it by 2 points so probably not but i would do it again and i actually look back with pride knowing that a key moment from my own doing possibly won my teammates silverware. This is exactly how Suarez will feel he'll look back and think because of what i did there we made it through to a world cup semi final and he'll have no regrets and i dont blame the lad.
He willingly broke the rules, surely that's the definition of cheating? It was punished according to the laws of the game but is still cheating.
If I mug you on the street but get caught and thrown in prison for a few days have I broken the law? Of course I have, just because it's been punished doesn't mean it's not wrong.
That's my view anyway.

yeah but at the end of the day if we were in the champions league final and someone like gareth bale took a dive to win us the game i guarentee that no spurs fan would be complaining. Although the way that you may have won the game is wrong you've still got your trophy and your european honours.
Im not saying that cheating is right but if it means the difference between winning and losing then i wouldnt be complaining if he did it. Also if we won the champions league and other fans starting having a go at us id just say at the end of the day mate we've won the most prestigious title in club football and your team hasnt. also at the end of the day they wouldnt be complaining if one of there players did the same.
Don't want to sound sententious but I would be complaining if that was how we won it. I hate this attitude in football: "It's OK to cheat because we'd all do the same thing." If there is one thing that could stop me watching football for good (although not going to happen really) it would be the constant diving, play acting, blatant cheating that goes on. I fooking hate it!
id rather teams won fairly ofc but if you've ever played football at a decent level then you'd realise that when you're out on the pitch you will do anything to win even cheat and i think that's perfectly acceptable when you go out and represent your club you want them to win and for those 90mins you want nothing else except 3 points and players will do anything to get them which i think is perfectly reasonable.
I said in my other post I wouldn't be happy with it and I truly meant that. If we're not good enough to win whatever match it was fairly then we don't deserve to win it.
The only way I could even vaguely try to justify it to myself is if one of the oppositions goals had come from a peno that also came from a dive. But I'm not even sure that would help in my mind.

Its not really winning if you win via cheating. But in Football its accepted, which is totally wrong and a culture that needs to be changed. Take for example when Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One, no one really celebrated it because it was handed to him by his mate on the track. In athletics you are striped of your medal if caught cheating and most other sports now have video technology. Its about time that Football changed and justice be done.
Mind you Ghana did fluff up their chance of going through lol.
