We need to look forward after this game and beyond Burnley because the crux to our success next season has already began! Enter the transfer market season:
Our biggest competitors
1. Arsenal
Honestly if a European star is looking to move to England, Arsenal and Spurs are the probably in one bracket, Man Utd and Chelsea will be in another. Arsene Wenger seems to be going all out to refresh his squad by actually spending money and no one can doubt his transfer record. With Arshavin using Arsenal as a spring board to Barcelona, or otherwise, it is unlikely that he will be around much longer. I see a lot of names being thrown up and Arsenal/spurs are almost always in it for the same players, so I'd caution Harry to appeal to players through our own unique way. Harry has a good record himself, signing of the season would be Kranj for 2.5m.
2. Man City
They will look to out bid any of the big 4 clubs, which we now belong to. But any player who looks to join them instead of us over wages (unless if we offer 80k and Citeh offers 250k) isn't worth a look in.
Timing
Unlike previous transfer seasons, this time every manager will know that we need to move before the WC inflate prices. So I think more action will be seen over the next four weeks. We already did the Sandro deal (which was great) at 10m, so we do not have the pressure to strengthen our midfield much. I think our pressing concern appears to be dumping some players instead.
Candidates to sell:
1) Jenas - Looking at 8-12m would be a good piece of business
2) Keane - 10-14m would be good for him, I think there might be some club willing to take him up.
Candidates to buy on bargain:
1) Yossi Benayoun - I think Harry rates him rather highly, as do I. He has been the spark for Liverpool and I do not know why he doesn't get more game time. 6-8m would be a nice price.
2) Carlton Cole - I do not see him as an improvement, perhaps just a replacement player if someone offers big money for Pav.
3) Joe Cole - I think either him or Benayoun but not both. I think chelsea wants 10m for him, I'd pay 4-5m given his age and injury issues.
4) Craig Bellemy - I like him the least out of Benayoun and Cole, old and injury plagued plus an attitude to boot. 2-4m please.
5) Diego - Juve is in the pits, I think a lot of their players might leave. Diego has under performed from his Bremen days where he lit the place up. If a good price is offered, 8-10m, I'd snap him up and worry about fitting him in later.
how can you claim that anyone would pay 8-12M for Jenas and think we can get Cole for 4-5M... think about it... Joe Cole, England internation (will probably go to the world cup)... Jermain Jenas, England missfit (will probably not go to the world cup)... now think sensably on prices of players LOL
I still belive that Tim Cahill would be a quality buy
I stated that 8-12m for Jenas would be a good price, not that anyone would bid that much for him.
Let me correct myself on Joe cole, I do believe that he is out of contract? So he should be moving for free?
Two players I would like us to look at, and sure a lot of you will say they are unrealistic, but Dzeko, Mexes would take us to the next level I believe!
Both have Champions League experience, but are both also the right side of 30.
Super Harry Redknapp,
He wears a magic hat,
He couldn't fly to Anfield
So turned into a cat!

Also, I would chuck van der Vaart into that list.

Cole would be a free, a bit of an enigma for me. Not a goalscorer, cant play central, injuries, wages. Let Fergie have him and make another fook up.
Cahills a good player, more suited to a 4-5-1. Maybe a big move passed him by 2-3 seasons ago.
The thing with Man City is that they will bid just to prevent other clubs getting a player, whether they want him or not.
For example, say we make a £20m bid for Edin Dzeko. Man City then equal our bid, and offer him £200,000 a week.
Not because they need him or want him, because it means WE dont get him. We're definatly one of their rivals now.
Jenas needs to be moved on, but I dont think we'll get £8-12m for him. I'd say £6m is a lot more realistic.
I think that we've moved on now without Robbie Keane and he;'ll be gone too. Probably for around the £8m mark.
This is a dangerous game, buying players who you dont know how to fit into a team, just on the back of reputation. I think this a part of Man City's problem.
Transfer window opens after the World Cup finishes...
Yes, but the contract ink usually dries before the window opens if I am not mistaken. Just like our good ole Sandro, soaking it up at some Rio beach while watching us march into Europe.
