Just a quick question. Does the winner of europa league gain qualification to champions league? Just wondering cause if liverpool or fulham win, will that mean the 4th english champ. spot will go to them?
No the winner of the Europa League qualifies for the Europa League ..........

ok thanks, but it hasnt always been like that has it?
Not sure but since it became a 'league' that is the rule - look at the UEFA site for all the weird and wonderful permutations .....

so if fulham win the europa and finish say 8th or 9th does that mean we have to finish top 6 to book our place ???
That's a very good question, not something I factored in.
I know in the Champions League that only 4 English teams are allowed, so should the person finishing 5th win it, then only the top three would qualify from the league, along with that fifth placed team.
Doubtless is the same with the Europa league.
Having said that, as long as it's a Chelsea vs. Tottenham FA cup final (likely but not written in stone) we'll be in cos even losing finalists get a Europa League place.
A Pompey vs Chelsea final would result in another place to the league as Pompey aren't allowed to have European football next season due to their finances, and Chelsea won't need it as they will qualify for Europe through the league.
Pompey vs. Aston Villa would probably give Villa a place because they don't really look like getting it in the league.
Man United won the Carling cup so there will be at least two places in the league, most likely three if the FA cup finalists don't need them/aren't allowed them.
If Fulham win it then there will only be two for the league, in my reckoning.
Just to clear one thing up... the winners of the old UEFA Cup never qualified for the European Cup or Champions League, but they were allowed to defend their title in the UEFA Cup the next seaon.
Likewise, the winner of the Europa League will only qualify for next season's Europa League and not the Champions League (unless their performance in their domestic League merits it).
So let's say Liverpool win the Europa Cup this season and also manage to finish fourth in the Premier League, it would mean that they qualify for the Champions League and not the Europa League, even though they were entitled to enter the Europa League as defending holders.

No, if Chelsea win FA Cup by beating us and finish in top four, we would go in to the Europa league, if we finish out of top four. then further down league places would get EL place

Losing finalists get a Europa League place, if the team that beats them has already got into Europe.
So if we **** it up and finish 8th but lose the final WE'RE IN.
if we lose the final to Chelsea but finish 4th, 5th or 6th we're in europe via another route so the team that finishes 7th in the league will get a place.
Pompey complicate things because they aren't allowed to be in Europe whatever happens. So if they lose the final and the winning team has a place in Europe then 7th place in the league will go into the Europa League.
It is complicated. But we should be in.
Yeah I read that, but I think there's also rules about solvency and stuff so even if they did as some clubs do and just give in the papers late (usually approved) UEFA will say no.
Personally I think seeing a Championship team go on a cup run would be funny but there we go, would rather we go through, surprisingly.
i do not want to think about the europa league, cmon you guys we can make the champions league and win you must always believe!
So as long as we make the final, we're in Europe no matter what? Cheers for clearing that up lads.

well even if we don't make the finals since Pompey didn't file for european license then as long as we finish 7th now we'll be in europe. now i would prefer UCL like everyone else but europe is still europe and progress is the name of the game.
