With so many injuries to our defensive line-up, there is a very real possibility that forgotten man, Dorian Dervite could be in our starting line up in Sunday.
Injuries to King, Dawson, Corluka and Huddlestone, make all four major doubts for the weekend, whilst we also have Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul Cup tied, leaving only Sebastien Bassong as the only proven Centre back, and BAE and Bale as two left footers for full back, unless Harry has a cunning plan or we get lucky with injuries, but....
Dorian Dervite was a player rated extremely highly by the club and was outstanding whilst on loan to Southend last season and also looked comfortable for the French U-21s. But since he has become a forgotten man for Spurs, despite a few appearences on the bench recently.
The last time we saw Dorian, was at Wembley against Celtic in a highly forgettable performance, not only by him but the team as a whole. His own performance looked like he was filled to the brim with nerves as well as playing in a season opener, in a patched up back four. Hardly an ideal baptism, and to do it at Wembley made it all the harder.
Wembley could of course be the venue of his enforced return to first team action, but hopefully this will be an event that he will be better prepared for, both physically and mentally. If he is called upon, it will hardly be perfect preparation for a player to make his season bow, but with potentially no other choice, he may get a chance to impress and at the same time rid himself of a few Wembley demons.
The hope is of course that we see a return of at least one of our defenders, but the question is, would you worry if Dervite lined up with the team on Sunday or do you have faith in his ability and are happy to accept his last appearance against Celtic as a small blip on an otherwise assured career?

looks like either one of daws, ledley or charlie will be fit for the semi anyway mate, so we won't have to play that clown thank god
( Click to show/hide )
Ideally he won't be. All depends on who gets fit. I hope you are right, woody. I think you will be, though, and thus we won't need to play with Dervite

I think Daws will be fit. He was a major doubt for last weekend so I reckon he'd have shrugged it off by now.
COME ON YOU SPURS!!!
And what proof other than one pre-season game have you got to back up the claim that Dervitte - an unused player throughout the entire season - is a clown?
I'd give him a go because nearly all other reserves have had an apperance for the senior team. Plus I'm not going to soil myself watching Bassong head a ball to the feet of Piquionne.

Well he's been on the bench countless times if that's what you mean....
As for games in the CC and coming off of the bench, Livermore deserves a few goes as well but didn't get them, and he scored the equaliser against Barca pre-season lol.
If you don't try, you'll never know. Bale came from nowhere and scored a free kick against Arsenal on his debut didn't he???

I still think Harry should give more opportunities to the younger players. If they're just thrown out on loan to other clubs or left on the bench, how and when will they ever be able to gel with the rest of the first team?
You have to start somewhere. That's how all these one-club players have built themselves up to be some of the greatest ever to grace the game.
NOTE - Dervite is 21 years old and still with no professional appearances to his name!
Ryan Giggs - Debuted for United at 18 years old
Paolo Maldini - Debuted for Milan at 17 years old
Iker Casillas - Debuted for Real Madrid at 17 years old
Ledley King - Debuted for Spurs at 18 years old
BILL NICHOLSON - Debuted for Spurs at 18 years old
An uncommon exception to the list of one-club players would be Carlos Puyol who debuted for Barca's first team at 21, but it certainly paid off for them. There's also Victor Valdes who debuted for Real Madrid at 20 years old.

you said it - no professional games to his name and hes already 21. Im all up for giving the yongsters a run out at opening stages of cups ( lower league teams) but a semi final at wembley aint the time or the place. I for one hope an experienced player fills that gap come sunday.
didnt he have a fall out with spurs at the start of the season and want to go to spain?
There is only one problem there, Dave. DERVITE AINT NEARLY AS GOOD AS THOSE PLAYERS!!!!! There is a reason guys like Casillas, Giggs, Puyol, etc. played so early...because they were tabbed to be some of the worlds best and displayed such a talent as younger players. Dervite doesn't have the same pedigree. He may certainly be good, but if he is no better than the others we can play at his position then he does not deserve, nor will he get, a spot in the first team.

[QUOTE=yidon17;193810]So when then? When we're scrapping for fourth spot for the remainder of this season and afraid to screw-up with team selection again?
Because that's the way it's going at the moment. The foreseen procedure will go as follows (imagine Dos Santos while reading):
1) Dervite will be left on the bench constantly until the end of the season.
2) He'll be sent out on loan AGAIN, only to be hailed as a cult hero there.
3) He'll come back and be left on the bench again, causing a rift and bad atmos in the dressing room for not getting enough game time.
4) He'll get signed to another club permanently and blossom, triggering the 'what might have been' sentiment.
