I love these stats - they always throw up such interesting things!

Here's the list of our top tacklers, this season. First figure is the number of tackles made. Second figure is their percentage success rate.

Wilson Palacios - 123 tackles, 76%

Tom Huddlestone - 99 tackles, 78%

Vedran Ćorluka - 68 tackles, 74%

Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 57 tackles, 86%

Niko Kranjčar - 55 tackles, 65%

Not a single central defender in the top 5.

And what's Niko doing there?

shows how important palacios is to our team, without him teams would steamroller us

surprised to not see dawson in there, he is a pretty clean tackler that doesn't give away many fouls

Whoa! fascinating stuff. Great that our 2 central midfielders are getting stuck in - they do such a great job of protecting the central defenders that Daws & Bassong rarely have to tackle. Daws would surely rule in a "blocked shots" category. Since our CDs are usually the last line of defence, it's great that they are more careful about tackles and probably use positioning to deter attackers.

Would never have guessed that BAE's succes rate was so high.

Thats good thing in my eyes, means 1) our CM's are doing a fantastic job protecting them 2) other teams are going to the wings because of either the great job the CM's are doing OR because our CB pair are playing that well to just take everything out before a tackle is needed.

I'm guessing our CB's aren't in there as their ball winning largely comes from headers from long balls. the midfield and full backs get more players running at them so will therefore put in more tackles. just a thought.
