yet another wide player capable of performing on either wing - it seems pretty obvious that we are in the market for a winger this summer after all.
The latest to be linked with Spurs is Everton's Steven Pienaar. Personally, I think Pienaar is a wonderful player capable of really hurting teams. Lennon flying down 1 wing & Pienaar down the other would just be lethal.
Not only would his arrival strengthen us, it would also weaken 1 of our big rivals in Everton as Pienaar has frequently proven a major attacking threat for the Toffee's.
I'm sure there will be a cacophony of "we don't really need him tho", but I'm still of the opinion that if a player will improve us overall then we should ot be so dismissive & I think Pienaar does bring something to the table we don't already have & he would make us a more dangerous outfit also.
However, we will face a battle with Chelsea or his signature & whether we can compete with their money remains to be seen.
Redknapp pins hopes on Pienaar

I really like Pienaar as a player. Like you say, Bass, he would be very nice to put on the wing opposite Modric. However, if this is to happen we need to find a striker that can play by himself up top. Leaving Modric off the field just is not an option in my mind. Thus, he would have to move in behind the strikers. Since it seems that he won't be playing in the center of a 4 man midfield, playing a single striker is the only option.
Ultimately I don't think such a deal would happen. However, do we really have a "left wing crisis" as the article indicates? We seem to be pretty good with wide players IMO. Bentley, Modric, Niko, and Lennon....that's 4 right there. Do we really need Pienaar? I'm not so sure. I would certainly welcome him if he ended up coming, though.

I think people dwell too much on having 11 players & getting them on the pitch. If we make the CL we are going to need a strong collection of players. Look at Manchester City. Everyone says how strong they look precisely because they have so many options. People will say how these calibre of players won't be content at sitting on the bench but it is all about ambition. If we are going to be competing for silverware, especially in 4 competitions, players will mind a lot less sitting games out on the bench. Then there are the injuries we will inevitably pick up over the course of a season & individual's dips in form.
Will Everton let him go to a rival? Lescott went to City, but it was a dirty fight for his signature & City paid WAY too much. However, he was in the middle of his contract whereas Pienaar will be entering into his final year & the article reckons we could get him for £10m - I'd snap their hand off personally

But Bass I would argue that we do have a strong collection of players, especially out wide on the wings. As I mentioned Bentley, Modric, Lennon, and Kranjcar (not to mention Bale if needed) form what I believe to be a strong and deep group of players. I agree with your point that depth is needed, but for me this is a position where we already have depth. Yes, injuries, as we have seen this season, can reduce that depth quite quickly, but when healthy we don't want any position to be too crowded, as that tends to unsettle players.
Again, I would welcome Pienaar as I think he is a good player, but the article mentions a problem on the left side, which IMO we don't have.

Decent adition.
However that midfield is getting real cramped.
Penus must be out on his ear if there is any truth in it.
Arteta is a classy player too , he and Pienaar are similar types and either would be an asset to us, however prizing one away from Everton may be too costly. However if we make the CL, then we need to target top calibre players in order to make the right impact in the future.
How artetta and Cahil havent moved to bogger things amaises me.
They have been class for years and flew below most peoples radars.
If we're interested, and I concur that we need a pure option on the left, then it would be nice to lock him up before the WC, because he stands out for South Africa, and I would think his value would rise.
If we make fourth my bet is we get him, or someone like him. We've talked about this before, but it does appear that 'Arry's thinking outside the 4-4-2 framework for next season. And like you all have said, sayanora JJ.
Aint he one of the ACN lot?
Crappy tournament is more hassle than it is worth.

Hmm... so atm we have
Lennon Bentley
Palacios Hudd Jenas O'Hara Sandro Livermore
Modric Krancjar Rose Townsend (if he's a lefty) Gio Taraabt
Get rid of-
Jenas, Gio and Taraabt
Get another out and out left winger in, loan a couple out and then happy days imo. Is Pienaar fully left sided?
get rid of gio and taraabt ?? i dont think thats such a good idea ther still young thier laernin the game giv them a run with the team then decide ..but i tottaly agree with jenas, pinenaar is a gr8 players but there is a player everytime i look at him i wish he was in our team such a good player with gr8 runs he plays for cska moscow hes milos kraisc i think hes good
Sorry mate, but Gio is not Prem material & is drowning in the Turkish league, let alone England. Taarabt won't be coming back to Spurs either. He has basically stated already that he is going to refuse to come back to Spurs, why would we even want him after those stoopid comments?
