AARON LENNON has been given a huge boost in his battle to be fit for the World Cup.
The Tottenham and England winger, out of action since December with a groin problem, will finally start light running next week.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admitted over the weekend he was uncertain whether Lennon would return to action this season but has finally been handed positive news.
Lennon is still some way off a comeback.
But he has been given the all-clear to start building up the muscle and is eyeing up a return in a month, with Spurs' clash with Chelsea on April 17 seen as a realistic target.
After the blow of losing David Beckham for the World Cup with a ruptured Achilles tendon, word of Lennon's improvement will also lift England boss Fabio Capello.
Speed-merchant Lennon, 22, is seen as No 1 choice for the right-midfield slot for the Three Lions' first match in South Africa against the USA.
He is battling with rivals Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright- Phillips and James Milner among others to make the plane and MUST prove his fitness to Capello to have a chance.

Schweeet.
Come on Lennon!!! If he can get fit in time he should deffo be on that plane!
Get in! Just in time for the Chavs!
"You score goals as a kid. Then you grow up stupid and become a goalkeeper."
Thats awesome news.
I'd say if he wants to get in the England squad, he'll need to be back around then so he can get a few games in before the season ends.
I just hope he is truly ready to start running again. I certainly trust the physios at Spurs...but I will always have a worry that something will go wrong.
This is good news, though, and should be received well by all! COYS!!
<------ Arsene Wenger
Good news but like Dub said I really hope they aren't forcing him out to quick, I am glad hes up and running.
Hope he doesn't do too much too soon.
yea like last time... Plus with his long-lay off he probably will not be super fit right away, but we sure could use him regardless.
We are not the same team without him. Kranjcar and Bentley have filled that spot decently but are nowhere near a threat like Lennon constantly is. I absolutely love it when Lennon is on fire and humiliates opposition leftbacks, like he did with Sylvinho and Edman.
He is Englands #1 at right midfield and I would be gutted if he didnt comeback to be fit for the WC. Id hate to see Walcott there, after Eriksson took him and not Defoe to the WC06 I have hated Eriksson, David Dein, Theo Walcott, Arsene Wenger and everyone at the FA and at Arsenal. IMHO I have a theory that Arsenal bribed Sven to drop Defoe and take Theo. You cant prove it but wheres the logic in not picking a striker who scores goals and instead go for player who had not a single appearance in the EPL?
COYS!!!
Go you good thing.
Super Tottenham....from the Lane.
sound as .... great news
best news for a long time, against the chavs will be so sweet
it is better to fail aiming high, than to succeed aiming low,
and we spurs fans have set our sites very high,
so high in fact that even failure will have in it
an echo of glory.
Great news, but although English I couldn't give a monkeys about the world cup at the mo. We need him for the FA Cup & 4th spot!
Great news.................good luck with your comeback Aaron
