Bale back with a bang
![]()
Gareth Bale is taking it a game at a time as he continues to impress after returning to the first-team fold. The Welsh international full-back was kept out of the side over the last year by a combination of injury and the form of Benoit Assou-Ekotto.
Indeed, he'd only started three times this season before a hip injury finally got the better of Benoit at the turn of the year.
Gareth returned in fine style with two assists in the 4-0 FA Cup win against Peteborough United on January 2 and hasn't looked back since with a string of excellent performances and host of Man of the Match Awards.
He picked up another assist and more rave reviews in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup draw at Bolton and now, 10 matches into his return, he's looking better than ever.
"I just want to concentrate on my game and do as well as I possibly can," he said. "I've had a bit of bad luck with injuries but have taken them on board and learned from them and now I'm better for it.
"I knew I had to keep working hard in training and learning the things I needed to do. I knew eventually I would get my chance and now I am getting it.
"I'm a lot more experienced now. I'm not a young, young kid anymore. I've learned a lot in the last couple of years since I've been here and it's served me well on the pitch. Hopefully that is showing.
"I never really doubted myself, I knew I'd get back, it just takes time. You have to be patient. But when I was injured I learned a lot about myself off the pitch.
"You see the game in a different way. You take tips off other players, watch a lot of games and see the game it from another angle than when you are just on the pitch.
"You have to be positive and hopefully I can become the best player I can be. As long as you're willing to learn, you're going to become a better player."
