      Lads back Tom

      16 February 2010
Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson had words of encouragement for Tom Huddlestone after his penalty heartbreak in Sunday's FA Cup draw at Bolton.
The midfielder saw his spot-kick saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen with the scores level at 1-1 in the second half the fifth-round tie at the Reebok Stadium.
A goal at that stage might well have wrapped up victory but we'll now do it again with the replay at the Lane on Wednesday, February 24.
Both Jermain and Michael can relate to Tom's misfortune - ‘JD' previously missed penalties at Everton and against Leeds while ‘Daws' gave away a last-minute penalty to hand Leeds a lifeline as the original fourth-round tie ended 2-2 at the Lane.
"Tom's a great player and it's not as easy as it looks," said JD. "You have to forget about the miss and move on to the next game. It's one of those things.
"It's not easy for the player who has missed and you'll always think ‘what if' but the bottom line is that we're still in the FA Cup. That's what matters.
"And when you look at the teams who have gone out of the competition there has to be a chance there for us. It would be great to go all the way."
Daws added: "As I've always said, good or bad, we win together and lose together and the fact we didn't win at Bolton wasn't just down to Tom missing a penalty.
"He will probably feel like that but it was the same when we played Leeds at home, we had plenty of chances to win the game before I gave away that penalty. That doesn't make it any easier when you feel deep down that you've cost your team.
"Tom's an unbelievable player and I'm sure he won't let it affect him too much. I'm sure he's had a couple of sleepless nights, just like I did after Leeds, but he's a top-class player and he will bounce back."

In all fairness Defoe really shouldn't be handing out any kind advice on penaltys lol. Tom should just smash the next one as hard as he can(which I'd imagine is very powerful) at the goal. I can't see many keepers keeping it out then.

Of course they are going to support their team-mate in public....the point is that Thud's penalty sucked! His body language before the spotkick was like a man on death-row.

Well at least Huddlestone had the bottle to step up and have a go, although he made a hash of it.
But agree Defoe should be the one.
