JD's deadly...says Ledley!
17 February 2010
Ledley King doesn't hesitate when asked about Jermain Defoe's form this season.
"I think he's the best finisher in the country and that's from anywhere, 25 yards and in," said Ledley. "And I've felt that for years. He's deadly."
Ledley was delighted to see the striker grab his 21st goal of the campaign to level the scores in Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Bolton.
Jermain had barely had a chance in previous games against Villa and Wolves - as well in the first half at the Reebok - but when the opportunity finally arrived, JD rifled home from Gareth Bale's pass to make it 1-1 in the 61st minute.
He also forced Jussi Jaaskelainen into a fine save and was inches away from a winner in injury time as we had to settle for a replay.
"Jermain will always score goals," added Ledley, skipper at the Reebok. "There are not too many forwards who can pick the ball up 25 yards out and still be a big threat.
"He can shift the ball and hit it from anywhere around the box. He will hit shots before defenders are set, he always hits the target and what he's doing well this season as well is poaching goals in the box, in the six-yard box, two yards out - he's popping up everywhere.
"I've trained against him so I know he's a nightmare to play against, especially for big centre-halves because the last thing you want is a little livewire around your knees!
"I'm delighted for him and he's one of the reasons we are where we are this season."

Come On You SPURS
i kinda think defoe is a bit one dimential, and a bit greedy. yes he's a striker and its his job to score goals but i also think the club would have had more goals if he had seen the pass instead of trying himself all the time. id also like to see him track back a little more and help out when needed.
Good point Funkfish! Defoe is a greedy little bugger, but what can you do? We'd all be criticising him if he didn't take his chances....it's a bit of a balancing act...and perhaps JD is a tad overweight in the greed department....but while he's banging 'em in, I won't complain.
