Sky Sports | Football News | Premier League | Tottenham Hotspur | Chan linked with Spurs trial

Lets hope he is not just a marketing ploy and can actually prove a worthwhile addition to the squad if his trial is succesfull

      I bet 'arry is happy

I think the Spurs website mentioned an affiliation with South China (football team?).

Hopefully he is talent but this will also help Spurs' exposure to the Asian market - meaning more £££

As the article points out, we played South China in pre-season & lost, so Harry got a good look at the player who, from what I heard, was excellent that day. His goal was flippin' amazing, that's for sure, so its no wonder that he is the 1st player from South China on Harry's list! His goal is about a minute in (0:49):

YouTube - Panasonic Invitation Cup - South China 2:0 Tottenham Hotspur

Here is a more all-round video of what this guy can do:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBnrEXxMGWo

You have to say, the boy looks pretty good on that evidence! If he does half of that stuff at Spurs, he can stay for sure. He is tall for a Chinaman, a couple inches over 6ft, so he won't be out of place in that sense in the EPL. BTW, did anyone else notice? At 1:33? This boy looks as tho he has Delap's number up, that throw in is as good as a corner, & with Crouchy in the box, well, I can see goals there for sure! That goal at 3:07! After last Saturday I am just praying this kid comes to Spurs in January in time to do that against the Scum! Fabregas? Pah! . . . & then he can score a carbon-copy of that strike at 6:12 - f*ck me! are you serious? What a goal. This guy looks like some sort of footballing ninja!

yeah, but most of the players in the hong kong league might as well be cardboard cut outs. You have to realise that any player from the premier league could dominate that league by themselves.

Of course that is true, but a couple of those strikes are a bit special whatever league they are in. The difference is in the ability to manufacture space for yourself in order to get the opportunity to strike a ball that way to begin with. In the Premier League, that is obviously MUCH harder & whether this guy is capable of doing it, that's the question & I guess what Harry is hoping to discover with this trial. However, he did it spectacularly against our very selves (albeit in preseason) & if he can prove himself able at creating space for himself at Premiership level then he could prove to be something a bit special, because he can obviously strike a football.

That goal he scored against us is an incredible strike. Outside of the boot, half-volley from 25-30yds, ball on the rise & bating a shot-stopper the calibre of Gomes.

This lad is very highly rated but as spurs_striker correctly pointed out the 'competition' out here isn't of the highest standards. We now have 'first option' on all South China players so we can expect a few to come over for trials (and PR opportunities) Since the signing of the Spurs agreement South China have put in offers on several players and are looking to do big things. The website is SouthChinaFC.com ????? won't help if you can't read Mandarin but does show that they have some serious sponsors ..........

It's more than a rumour though, isn't it Bass? I mean we've actually got the lad over for a trial, so I can see where all the hype is coming from in Hong Kong. Best of luck to the lad, he looks like he can add something else to our attack.

Yep, but Toda was a DM from Japan & was never really going to match up to the physicality of the Premiership, especially in such a physical position. This boy is from Hong Kong, not Japan, he's a striker & he's over 6ft. Also, Toda came with a bit of expectancy already. This lad is here & we know nothing about him, so I wish him all the luck & if he can give us an unknown quantity, all the better!

Lets look at the bigger picture lads.

You say that their league is pony. At present I have to concede.

However. Look at the progress they have made in the footballing world in a relatively short period of time. Football is a brand spanking new sport in the Far East and is around the same age as the modern game in America.

They have billions of people to choose from, they are at the forefront of technology and revolutionary techniques.

They will be world champions withing 20 odd years with USA also challenging for honors.

Its a given that they will produce world class players and with that volume of people it will start to happen very quickly.

He could be the first of many big big players from the far east.

He is from Hong Kong, where my parents are from. The population is about 7million. The kids play on concrete pitches, and when they play on grass (difficult to book for more than 1-2 hours) no one will slide tackle. I made that mistake when i played there before and everyone was basically going "WTF? Sliding? WTF man? This isn't the premier league man!" This is a place where kids are expected to stay at home, and the parents rather they play on games consoles than football, and with the 35 degree + summer heat, it can be difficult to play for long times anyway.
I am not saying there will never be good players coming out of Hong Kong, but so far, there haven't been and football has always been the favourite sport there.
