if your willing to put on the shirt and perform then stay I say... he's had an off season like most players do, I think he will be banging in the goals next season if he keeps fit

Defoe has just done an interview on SSN saying he REALLY wants to stay with us , and absolutely does not want to move away .
He says he is very frustrated with this season but feels that he still has much to offer .
He loves being part of the club and it sounded very much like a plea from the heart .

Well he has also said he wants more first team football.
Surely he needs to understand that if he is not performing then he will not be first choice.

I've got no problems with him staying..
The only problem I have is him starting to whinge about not playing regularly enough...
He's Just as good as Hoddle, He's better than Chris Waddle, His Mrs is a Model, He's Rafael Van Der Vaart!
Did anyone else detect a bit of criticism for not being played enough. Almost like he was blaming his poor form on starting consistently. To me that's a bold thing to say with his scoring record this year. I've always like JD but I didn't like that. He needs to own up to his own failures. If he performed consistently he would be in the 1st XI, especially this year. It's as simple as that.
"If you speak to any of the players and the fans, they will tell you that I am committed to the club," he said.
"I love the club and I still get the same buzz that I did when I first walked out at White Hart Lane, which is important.
"But for me the main thing is playing football and if I am not playing football then I am not happy, because I love my football.
"I want to help the club achieve things, win trophies and get in the Champions League, but when you feel like you are working hard, training hard and being professional, and then for some reason you are not playing, it is difficult."

Just sounded like a very frustrated man. I'd take everything he said with a pinch of salt.
The more interesting interview surely was the one with Ashley Young who said he needs to speak to his chairman and manager about his future. . ..
Jermain Defoe has admitted to growing frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities at Tottenham.
The England striker has dropped out of Harry Redknapp's first-choice XI this season as he has struggled for goals, with only four in the league all campaign.
"I want to help the club achieve things, win trophies and get in the Champions League, but when you feel like you are working hard, training hard and being professional, and then for some reason you are not playing, it is difficult," Defoe told Sky Sports News.
"It is frustrating. At the end of the day I am ambitious. I want to play in every game and score goals, especially when you score goals for a fantastic club like Tottenham.
"I have always been like that from the first day I walked through the door and I truly believe that if I am playing games I will score goals. I think my record shows that.
"It has been really, really hard to be honest. Players come and go, that is just football and it is out of my hands."
The 28-year-old insisted he remains committed to Tottenham, but admitted he may have to reconsider his future if he cannot get back in the team.
"If you speak to any of the players and the fans, they will tell you that I am committed to the club," he said.
"I love the club and I still get the same buzz that I did when I first walked out at White Hart Lane, which is important.

Sounds like he's whinging more than anything. He got his chance to cement his place around Christmas, he started several games and scored no goals, then got sent off, came back and still didn't score any goals. I think it's just been an awkward season for him but there are good reasons to keep him out of the first XI right now. If he stays I'm sure he'll be back to his best next season but reading this:
"I have always been like that from the first day I walked through the door and I truly believe that if I am playing games I will score goals. I think my record shows that.
If we went by players records then Robbie Keane would be starting every week. Defoe hasn't looked sharp in front of goal and I think all of his goals have been from outside the penalty area this season, which shows just how badly his close-range finishing is right now.
If thats how it is I'd rather sell Defoe and keep Pav as Pav doesn't sulk and whine when he is not getting regular play time, and it is obvious that in the form they have been in this season none of them should be a regular starter, specially not if we're going with a 4-4-1-1 formation. I expect more from Defoe than this, he should just shut up, train hard and try to show what a striker he can be when given the chance which he has been plenty of times this season, what I see now is a striker who always loose possession, gets bullied off the ball, misses clear chances and got no creativity left in him. If you look at Crouch for instance, he has been benched plenty of times as well and he doesn't sulk when he comes on, he tries his hardest every time, I expect the same from Defoe if he wants to play for a club like Tottenham, he can't simply expect a regular spot when he has been the worst player on the pitch so many times this season.
Oh well....
Don't miss from 1 bloody yard and maybe you would be playing more!
No sympathy for someone that's not playing when they've been complete turd in the first place.

Super Tottenham! The Football World Is OURS!
his better than pav
sorry defoe, thanks for your services but its time to jog on me thinks.
I would love to keep him around but he just isn't playing at a level that guarantees first team football. If he is just going to complain all next season about playing time than it might be best for both parties to split ways now rather than soil his reputation with the club.
