Villa target £9m deal for Spurs ace - Exclusive

Aston Villa are favourites to land Robbie Keane this summer - as Celtic boss Tony Mowbray faces up to losing the striker.

Spurs hitman Keane, 29, has been a big success on loan at Parkhead, where he has scored eight goals in eight games.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants to sell the forward in the summer as he has now decided to keep Roman Pavlyuchenko.

But Celtic cannot afford a permanent deal for the £9million-rated ace, who earns around £65,000-a-week.

That has let in Villa, whose wage structure can accommodate Keane.
Boss Martin O'Neill is a big fan and will fund the move for Keane by selling several fringe players like Habib Beye, Steve Sidwell and Nicky Shorey.

Keane returned to White Hart Lane in January 2009 for £12m after flopping at Liverpool.

Transfer news: Aston Villa target £9m summer deal for Tottenham ace - MirrorFootball.co.uk

If we do decide to sell Keane, £9 million is about right but is it wise to sell to one of our closest rivals?

If we replace him with a stronger player for a similar amount then yes please, it is a deal worth doing. The majority of spurs fans will agree that he doesn't have a place in our team anymore.

But is it really wise to be shot so quickly of a player who has scored 9 goals in 20 matches for us this season?

He'll be 30 in July, take it while we can still get it.

Need I remind you that a certain Mr. Edward Sheringham was still banging them in at the top level in his 40s?

Im unsure whether we should sell Keane or not. He is clearly a player who is not happy to sit on the bench, and returning to Spurs would probably mean he would do that. We will probably sell him, but he will still always be remembered as a legend. 100+ goals for us is amazing.

Robbie Keane, legend. His shirt hangs in my window!

he seems to be gaining confidence up at celtic and we know he has ability so it might not be a good idea to sell...

I would agree £9 Million for a 30 year old is too good to turn down. How much of an impact will he make anyway since they've got Agbonlahor and John Carew? he may just end on the bench for them...

I say it's a good deal I just don't see more of a future for him at our club anymore, but then again with the injuries that we have had in the club he would be a good backup to have.

Im a big fan of Robbie and think he's got a couple of years in him yet , however when do you draw the line and grab the money and run. It always concerns me when another club with similar ambitions and current standing attempt to take our players . If it was a club struggling at mid table or at the bottom then fine , but Villa who are also challenging for that 4th place , is it really a good idea to sell them a player that could potentially run riot

I wouldn't have a huge problem selling Keane. However, I have a huge problem selling him to Villa. Why sell a club legend and captain to one of our biggest competitors for CL football? So that he can go in and score a bunch for them and see them to qualification? No thanks. This deal has a huge potential to come back and burn us in the end if we do it. I can see it now....Keane scoring a winning goal for Villa against us that put them points up in the table. Not the right place to sell him.

and you just know after the confidence boost he will receieve from banging in goals{all be it the spl},that if he signed for villa he would come back to bite us on the arse.its a tough one,hes deffo lost a yrd of pace and he hadnt much in the first place, but his postioning sense is still there which if we sold him to villa would be a major worry for me.

Deals like this are about trusting Harry Redknapp as a manager. We have to trust that if we sell keane for £9m that we are going to make sure we get someone in with more class who will score more goals.

For £9m ill drive him there!!!

If we make CL football i want to be signing massive star players not players that just want a good pay day!

I think RK was great but we have to move on..... Good luck Robbie
