Anybody follow the A-league down in Oz?

I think I remember a lass on here sayin' she was a fan of the Newcastle Jets (current champs), but that's it.

I watch the highlights, etc, when I can (surprisingly, Fox Soccer Channel has a dedicated show for it), though living in the States as I do I haven't had the opportunity to watch live (I did see a preseason match a year or more ago at Campbelltown stadium, Sydney FC vs - I think - Newcastle).

For purely parochial reasons, I'm a Sydney FC fan myself (also a soft spot for Melbourne Victory, having lived in the 'burbs there for years).

The standard of football isn't the best, obviously, but it picks up. Heading in the right direction, I think.
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and foremost about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

      ADELAIDE UTD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is frustrating to watch, due to the lack of skill, and I always feel like the clubs are stagnating. No excitement, especially in the transfer zone. I still go to a few games a year though.

i follow melbourne. i'm a member but admitt the club really annoys me. the a-league in general does.
it comes across as unambitious to me.

but hey. i've already signed up for next year and i'll keep going. what other choice do i have? can't see any other football live.

Yep, couple of Yiddos living in London who are ex Kiwis - supporting the Wellignton Phoenix. There's a spurs thread on the Yellow Fever Website here: Yellow Fever - Supporters of Wellington Phoenix FC

Season in Aus/NZ starts this weekend too, so lots of footy to look froward to.

I've been looking for a place to watch A-League games in London, but as yet have not found anything.. . anybody know where I might be able to?

I will not support the A-League because every Australian jumped on Football during the World Cup two years ago. I went from being on of only two or three kids in my class that support Football to everyone bandwagoning the sport and thinking they knew it all, while then having no idea what 'off side' was.

I know that isnt the A-Leagues fault, but it really pissed me off!

The standard is not that great, but coming from Victoria I hope Melbourne Victory goes well.

Eh? That's a shame and kind of odd.

the a-league is all we've got mate, so isn't it our duty to jump on board and support it?
for the first time ever football has a mainstream following here which nobody could have imagined this 5 years ago.

we're babies of the sport. young and silly fans are to be expected. but thats no reason for you not to jump on board. we need everyone.

Maybe my original post did not come out the way I wanted.

I do not follow the A-League, I follow the EPL. Its not the A-League itself, its all of my (then) school who thought they knew everything about Football 'just like that' when Australia was in the World Cup. I can't stand bandwagoning.

I do support the Football down here, and hope for Australia's sake it goes well. However, I can not stand Australians (I am English) talk to me after following the sport for a matter of weeks and talk rubbish about England, the EPL etc.

I think I understand where you're coming from. However my approach is I'm just so glad that for the frist time in history football is making a dent in the dominatino of Rugby back in NZ. I lived there for 26 years waiting for something like the A-League to come along. Now that it has arrived I can't get enought of it (albeit from here in the UK).

Me too. Football was a shambles down here before the A-League. I just hope they are not trying to expand it to quick, because it may fall in a heap.

did you see allsopps shirt front on kosmina? hahaha

massive game against adelaide on tuesday night. if hernandez can play like he did tonight we should be able to get up though.

Do any of you know when this second Melbourne team is supposedly coming in?

I think I am going to support them when they come into the competition.
