Hello from Detroit, Michigan, where the only other football shirts I've seen are of the Man-U, Chelsea or Liverpool variety.
I started supporting Spurs in the summer before the 2005/2006 season during the Peace Cup tournament after having watche the Premier League for several years without really adopting a team. I chose Spurs because I really enjoyed watching Ginola play, and also because Spurs are the mirror-image of my University football (grid-iron) team - Michigan State University.
I went to White Hart Lane for the first time last year, arriving on the day of the Getafe match when Jol's firing was made public. I saw Spurs lose to Blackburn on a late goal, then watched them beat Blackpool in Ramos' first game in charge. Even with the loss at Boro last weekend, I'm still looking forward to this season.

Welcome aboard mate
hi and a massise warm welcome
enjoy the site mate
First off, welcome to the site DetroitSpur! Plenty of Americans on here who share your sentiment regarding united, Chelski, gooners and the scouse fans in the States.
P UNIT, you Brits crack me up. To you guys, we may be "yanks", but about 75% of us (myself included!) would take offense to being called that, especially looking at the history of the US! LOL But I'll over look it this time.

Why is it offensive? I got loads of american family and call them all yanks. They dont call very often come to think of it!!!
Soz if I offended anyone I wasnt aware it was derogatory at all.
I called black people golly wogs til I was 13 coz I didnt know any better, and to this day I often use the term Wog box without thinking. Very old parents is what I blame. But no excuse.
Appolagies if I have offended anyone, you will quickly learn I aint the sharpest tool in the box!!!
P.
I have to apologize myself P UNIT. I didn't mean the offense comment to be too terribly serious, I suppose it's just more of a very large American inside joke.
The main usage of the word as we in the states use it now stems from our own Civil War, nearly 150 years ago. The northern Union Army was quite often referred to by themselves and, most influentially, the Southern Confederate Army as yanks, or yankees. To this day, a lot of people who reside in the southern half of the states (this is where I come in) just cringe when people say the word. In fact, southern Americans will often use it as an almost derogatory manner when referring to northern Americans (guilty!), and, coincidentally, many northern Americans will use it as a high and mighty praise of their history, belittling Southerners! Nowadays, like I said, its more like a large American inside joke.
Now I fully understand that you were most likely not aware of that and I honestly meant my previous post to be in complete jest! I just think it is quite humorous when Brits refer to Americans in general as yanks because if you were to call tried and true Southern American person that, some may actually take serious offense too it and give you a mighty fine tongue lashing!
So definitely no harm in your use...just a bit of my own humur, I suppose. Sorry!![]()
ha i live in the southern part of US (texas) and we call yanks the people that live in the northern part of the country yanks lol

Welcome aboard Detroit....Colorado representing here, Tottenham fan thanks to my brother in law from Essex. That is awesome you have already been to The Lane.....
Yeah we are all friends again!!!!
Thanks. I've got a good friend in Denver. He left town this weekend to avoid the DNC.
The Lane was simply fantastic. I've been to a lot of hockey, college football and pro football stadiums and the atmosphere at the Lane was far and away the best. I can't wait to go back.
