Hi there. Just a few lines to introduce myself (an abridged version as i did this once yesterday - hit post & the bloody thing disappeared & i was too pissed off to re-type it!)
I have been a Spurs fan since 1968 & went to my first game at WHL on 12th Aug 1972 (beat Coventry 2-1 with 2 Martin Peters goals).
I used to attend all the home games back in the late 70's & most of the away games. The only season i managed to see every game was the year we spent in Div2. There is a very small picture of me at the back of the stand at Southhampton away when we got promoted in the "Tottenham Boys we are here" book (need a magnifing glass to make me out though). I think the 9-0 win over Bristol rovers was a particular highlight. The 7-0 thrashing away to Liverpool after we got promoted (i was there) wasn't quite so good.
Since then i have only attended the odd home game here & there due to family committments but now the kids are off my hands i have been attending a lot more (especially this season). Next up for me are Blackpool, Wigan & Birmingham. I find the tickets are quite easy to get hold of as a member as a lot of the season ticket holders only seem to want to attend the BIG premiership games. I still sit in the Park Lane most of the time (old habits die hard!) as it gives the best atmosphere & the chance of a bit of banter with Northerners (we should all be issued with one of those Universal translators they have in Star Trek on match days).
I do feel a bit sorry for the younger supporters amongst you as we have at least had a modicum of success recently, after you have been following the Mighty yids for 10-15 years or so you get used to having your hopes dashed on a regular basis but once Spurs are in your blood there is no going back. At least it is character building being a yido. It is VERY easy to support a team that is successful every year (look at all the Chelsea glory hunters that have appeared from under a rock in the last few years - i remember them getting crowds under 10,000 in Dec2). It takes fortitude & a very thick skin to follow the Spurs.
I have never had a players name on any shirt i have owned - i will be a yid LONG after they have left the club. One thing that has definitely changed for the better over the years is that the fans get behind the players alot more (& the support for Jol last night was amazing). back in the day if the fans did'nt like a player they would absolutely slaughter them (which i really disliked - it won't make them play any better). Mind you they did have cause, John Lacey, Ian Moores....i could go on.
The toilet facilities in the Park Lane are a disgrace for a Premiership club, these things are important at my age :-) I will have to take it up with Ramos at the earliest opportunity.
Hi OldYid, welcome to the forum. Thats one of our longer introduction posts, it's good. It's nice to have an idea of the people who are posting.
Hope you enjoy your time here :10:

P.S, Beats where abouts in N.I are you? I lived in Portadown for a couple of years in the mid 1970's.
Was good preparation for the away games to come a few years later :32:
wow now thats what i call a good introduction
Thanks for the warm welcome.
P.S just a quick word of warning, don't buy me more than one pint in the B&H before matches or i will bore you all to tears with my old "war" stories........... :32:
That & there is no way i am queuing up three times for a gypsies kiss in the Park Lane khazis. :28:
I'm from Carrick, near Belfast but on the other side from Portadown. I'm not down there much but I think it's still pretty bad, I can imagine it would be good away match training, especially back then...
Every game is sort of an away match for me, I know it's the lane but when you have to fly, negotiate a strange city and book a hotel that counts as away :5: Only been to 1 away game and it was just the friendly in Dublin this year which was much easier to get to!!

I congratulate you on your dedication! Im impressed.
It's nearly as cheap for me to go & watch Hertha Berlin than Tottenham (i lived there for a while too & used to go to the odd game here & there). Certain flights on Air Berlin are One Euro (+ tax) & good match tickets are only around £15. I just need them to start flying from Gatwick & it could become a regular occurence......i have only planned the trip so far but haven't executed it yet (have to get it past the other half as well :5: )
I imagine it will be a bit like watching the Mighty Yids, just when it looks like they might achieve something they always find a way to blow it! :17:
That's just like my american football team the redskins. twice this year they've went in at half time with a lead and done nothing in the second half. Same at the game I attended in Washington last year :17:Originally Posted by Old Yid

I only went to 1-2 games a season for a LOONNGGG time. Mortgage to pay, Kids to feed, wifes shoe/handbag allowance etc :28:
But im back in the fold again :5:
It's funny, im 48 next year & the last thing she always says to me before i leave the house for a game is "dont get arrested" :32: She thinks im still 18.......... :32:
