Kirsty Milczarek, one of four jockeys hit by BHA corruption charges on Friday that could result in them being banned for up to 25 years, has claimed she was injured during the ride for which she is under investigation.
Milczarek’s performance on Obe Gold, even-money favourite when a slow-starting fifth to Connor’s Choice at Lingfield on August 15, 2009, is one of 10 races that the BHA claimed involved suspicious betting patterns and corrupt practices after one of the sport’s biggest enquiries.

Scandal: Kirsty Milczarek will face corruption charges along with three other jockeys
Milczarek, 26, is charged along with fellow riders Paul Doe, Greg Fairley and Jimmy Quinn as well as jockey-turned-trainer Paul Fitzsimons.

They are accused of both passing on inside information and preventing their mounts from running on their merits in races between January 17, 2009 and August 15 that year.
Also charged are owners Maurice Sines and James Crickmore plus six others believed to be their associates who allegedly used the information to profit on Betfair. A six-figure sum is allegedly involved. Sines and Crickmore are also alleged to have concealed their ownership.
Milczarek’s ride came a day after Obe Gold had again started slowly and finished third at Catterick under Fairley. That race is also under investigation.
Christopher Stewart-Moore, Milczarek’s solicitor, said: ‘Kirsty does not know any of these layers. Two of them she has a nodding acquaintance with but she has never spoken privately with either of them.
‘Obe Gold’s antics caused Kirsty to hit the metal stanchion on the starting stalls which was the only thing that kept her in the saddle.
‘She was badly injured and observed by other jockeys to be in tears after the race.
‘She reported it to the racecourse doctor, who saw severe bruising across her chest. The next day at Newbury she saw the physio who strapped her shoulder up and also witnessed the bruising.’

Allegation: Paul Doe has been charged in connection with five races
Milczarek is one of the most successful female riders, but she has struggled to match her 71 wins in
2008 and has become as well known as girlfriend of six-time champion Kieren Fallon.
The BHA have set aside 10 days for a hearing starting on October 20.

I wonder if the chairman of the Jo lies association will get as irate as Twatter did when asked about corruption.
