William Gallas played 70 minutes as our Spurs XI beat QPR 3-1 in a training ground friendly on Tuesday.

Coach Tim Sherwood was delighted with the defender's performance alongside fellow senior professionals Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley, who both completed 90 minutes as boss Harry Redknapp looked on at Spurs Lodge.

"It was William's first game for a while and it was excellent for the younger boys to play alongside him," said Tim.

"He showed how he squeezes play up the pitch, how he uses his body and he manages the game superbly.

"Jermain Jenas was outstanding, picking the ball up, running at QPR, getting into their box and causing them problems.

"The energy was fantastic centrally from JJ and Jake Livermore, who has played three or four games for us like that now."

QPR took the lead with a counter-attack in the 15th minute but we were soon level as Livermore and Harry Kane opened it up for Kudus Oyenuga to fire home via a deflection.

Kane went close twice, Jenas shot inches wide and Gallas showed his value at set-pieces by twice getting onto David Bentley corners, both efforts just off target.

Into the second half and Kane's free-kick grazed the side-netting before his header cannoned off Oyenuga and struck the post.

Bentley tested the reflexes of former Spurs goalkeeper Radek Cerny from 20 yards but Cerny was then involved in a defensive mix-up that gifted us the lead, Kane left with a 10-yard dash to tap the ball home before it crossed the line and claim the goal.

Oyenuga was denied one-on-one before Bentley unselfishly squared to substitute Massimo Luongo to tap in the third.

"It was great to see Harry on the scoresheet again having missed a couple of chances earlier in the game," added Tim. "You just know he's going to score a goal. He's a real threat.

"It was ideal for us. As I said, it's great for the younger lads to play with the experienced players, but the experienced players have also got what they needed out of the game."

Niko's old man is currently plotting England's downfall in the next qualifier, I'm sure his son will have a few hints for him, parhaps Crouchie should start pretending he's a donkey in training to fool the Montengrans!! Just kidding Pete! Seriously though, why can't Lennon get it together for England? With all our players who can genuinely call themselves England squad members he's the biggest dissapointment, (no mention woody of course), sure Kranjcar senior won't be expecting to face Lennon on the right, which is a shame because on his day he is more effective that Walcott! Important season for both players, but Walcott has been much quicker out the traps, would like to just a little more from Lennon this time around.

The Transfer Window Bottom Line: Spurs come up short.

The following were, I believed, the essential additions needed in this last transfer window (in order of importance):

1. Essential to top 4/CL: A physical center striker that can be dominant in a 4-5-1
--Lose: No change from last season

2. Needed insurance: An experienced center back to cover King.
--Win: Gallas

3. Icing on the cake: A center midfielder that can control the tempo of a game.
--Win: VDV

So here we are a few weeks into the season and we have already picked up some unfortunate (and especially in Dawson's case), unexpected injuries. Such injuries happen and so I don't think it is fair to take them into consideration for this post. We also have had some great bonuses at the end of last season and beginning of this season, Bale goes without saying, but also I think Big Tom has stepped up beyond what many of us thought was possible, he still can improve a lot, however lately he has been proving all of my criticism wrong one pass at a time. Our strikers are also in good form (although beat up), so I don't want this post to sound like we are going down the shitter. We are a strong side that I am proud of.

However, when I look back at what we needed to do in the last transfer window we did not accomplish our top priority. I know our strikers are quality, but we are missing that go it alone center striker that the other big teams can call on (Drogba, Rooney, Adebayor, Torres). Arsenal are the one team that I would say may also be missing this sort of player (unless Bendtner makes some sort of miraculous improvement). Everyone knew we needed this sort of player, and I think we all know why we didn't get one:

Harry: We need a big striker.
Levy: How much?
Harry: 90,000/week.
Levy: Is there any alternative?
Harry: I could try to wait out deadline and get a deal.
Levy: Yeah lets do that.

Well it backfired and we didn't get any deal at all. Now it will cost us more than 90,000/week in sub-optimum results from our great team missing that one attacking option. What is the most frustrating thing about the whole mess, is that if Levy knew we were not going to get the last minute deal, then would he still opt to not spend the big money??? I don't think he would spend it, which means we are seriously limiting our growth as a club to protect a wage structure that none of the other big clubs follow.

Props to Harry for VDV and Gallas, I think that they are both quality additions that are sufficient to meet our 2nd and 3rd transfer priorities. But our first priority is still unmet, and for that I believe we failed on the transfer window front.

i know there are some members on this forum that follow their respective countries everywhere but i still think that the PL is no 1 and is the most exciting football to watch

i am so bored without it, it speaks volumes even on the forum because there is nothing to talk about with spurs not playing, just the usual suspects talking pish and discussing funny vids on youtube (ire)

i am dying to win at west brom, because it is eating away at me that we got beat in the last game, against wigan at home!! and i've had to digest that for almost two weeks, that's why i am kicking and screaming for the PL to return! i want to erase that last match think on SS and record a victory

i'm sorry, but internationals are as boring as fook and especially when all you hear is england, england, england

Since not single of us is objective regarding Tottenham it is interesting what has someone who is objective and expert in this field has to say about us:

Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has insisted Tottenham are now finally as good as their north London rivals Arsenal.
Robben, a Dutch team-mate of Rafael van der Vaart, believes Spurs have bridged the gap between the clubs with their signing of the midfielder from Real Madrid.
Robben said: 'Before Rafa signed, I’d still have had Arsenal down as the stronger team - but now I don’t think there is anything between them.

Making his move: Rafael Van der Vaart

'With Rafa on board, Spurs really do have one of the very best midfield players in the Premier League, maybe even the best.'
Robben admitted he wanted Van Der Vaart to join him at Bayern, and is sure Tottenham have made a shrewd move.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: 'I don’t know why he didn’t join Bayern in the end. I really wanted him but Spurs have bought a gem.
“In terms of his vision, his range of passing, his ability to split a defence and his eye for goal he is as good as Cesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrard and of course Frank Lampard.
“He is that bridge for Spurs that makes them go from a very good Premier League club to a team capable of taking on and beating any side in Europe on their day.
'When you consider the amount of money Real Madrid and Manchester City have spent on players, it’s almost unbelievable to think what Spurs reportedly paid for Rafa.
'Madrid almost gave away one of the best players in the world – but that’s their style.
'They got rid of me and Wesley Sneijder in the same summer and I went on to win my domestic league and get to the Champions League Final while Wesley went on to win the Treble and become the best player in the world.
'Madrid’s mistake will very much be Spurs’ gain.'

We're coming to get you! Arjen Robben believes Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger now has plenty of reason to fear Harry Redknapp's Tottenham

Robben also believes that Arsenal star Robin van Persie had been trying to tempt Van Der Vaart into a move to the Emirates.
'I knew of his interest in England and that van Persie had been speaking with him about how great life in London was. I think when Robin was trying to convince him how great London and the Premier League was, it was as though he was trying to convince him to join Arsenal.
'It’s kind of backfired on Robin a little bit now, though, because he has signed for their biggest rivals.'
