England have been rocked after Wayne Rooney was banned for all three Euro 2012 group matches.
Fabio Capello's side will have to progress to the knockout stages without their best player after he was punished for his petulant sending off in Montenegro last week.

The Manchester United star was suspended for violent conduct after UEFA's disciplinary chiefs met in Nyon.
England are now weighing up their next move and must decide by Sunday whether to appeal the ruling.

Banished: Wayne Rooney was sent off in Montenengro

An FA statement read: 'Further to UEFA’s decision to impose a three-match suspension on Wayne Rooney following his sending off against Montenegro, the FA await the full reasons from the disciplinary committee, and will give full consideration to the decision internally, before deciding on any response to UEFA or making any further public comment.'
A statement from UEFA read: 'The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has today handed down a three-match suspension to England forward Wayne Rooney following his dismissal during the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier in Montenegro last Friday, 7 October.
'Today's decision was taken in relation to the red card shown to Rooney for assault after 74 minutes of England's final Group G game, the 2-2 draw with Montenegro in Podgorica.

'The striker will now be suspended from playing in his country's next three UEFA national competition matches for which he would be eligible.
'An appeal may be lodged against the verdict of the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision.'
Rooney was shown a straight red by referee Wolfgang Stark for kicking Miodrag Dzudovic.

Serious assaults warrant up to a five-match ban, say the regulations, but the FA had submitted a dossier to the disciplinary body pleading for leniency.


Nightmare: Fabio Capello must now plan for life without Rooney

In 2004, Chelsea's Marcel Desailly was initially handed a three-match ban for elbowing Monaco's Fernando Morientes but that was reduced on appeal to two games after UEFA said the act was not deliberate, and taking into account his good record.


Andrey Arshavin was also given a two-match ban and missed Russia' first two games of Euro 2008 after being sent off against Andorra, but TV evidence was less clear-cut than in Rooney's case.

Meanwhile, England will not face any action from UEFA over reports of racist chanting by their fans in Sofia during the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria.

Charges against Bulgaria for racist chanting against Ashley Young will be heard by UEFA on November 17.
