I have a pretty damn speedy cable internet connection I recently bought a router in order to be able to be on the computer and on PSN at the same time well I am running into some problems.
When I play COD on PSN I walk through walls the games seem to lag to the point where the game times out or I get kicked out the playlist, I shoot people right in the head up close and I don't even get a hit.
I know Modern 2 has ALOT of problems but when I connected the cable back to my normal modem it plays much better. So what's the deal? I didn't think my connection could be cut down that bad especially since I am not downloading or running huge programs on the computer any ideas of what could be the problem?
Wireless or wired?
You loose approx 10% signal strength per meter and 20 odd % through each wall.
Hard wire it if it isnt already.
Also the cordless phones and microwaves etc interfere with the wireless signal try switching absolutely everything else off in the house, ask ya neighbours to do the same and they try it.
It's both wireless and wired I only use the wired part because I don't care about the wireless never liked it for gaming, it's acting as if I have 5 computers connected to it or something and my cable is fine is idk should I still call my provider or something?
Best thing I've ever bought is a pair or 'Powerline adaptors'. It uses the house electrical wiring to get the signal from router to any part of the house with no wireless problems. Xbox is in the furthest room away from my study in the house, wireless was terrible (lag and slow downloading on wireless). Soon as I plugged in these powerlines, Was getting no lag and my full 40meg connection on my xbox.
Mate what is that?
Link and explain some more.....!
Javi mate call them and tell em its shit. They may send you another router or just trouble shoot yours.
Worth a dig if you cant get it working
Well the router isn't theirs I went out and bought it on sale I have been meaning to get one for over a year now and since I only use it for two things I figured it would do the job.
Ill try and troubleshoot it and yeah Luke what's these power adapters you talk about?
UNIT - Basically from your router down in your study or what ever you have an ethenet cable going from the router into this powerline adapter which plugs straight into the wall. Somehow it used the houses electrical wiring to carry the signal. Therefore you can have the other (they come in pairs or 3's) adapter plugged into the wall in another room with another ethenet cable coming out ready to plug into an xbox/ps3/laptop, it's an effective way if your house has thick walls or is too large to carry a good signal.
They range from £40 to £150 depending what you want, cheaper ones are 75mbs and expensive ones are 200mbs+, I have the 75mbs ones and am getting 40meg all around my house.

Sorry Unit I thought u were talking to me... lol
I was......... Lost all interest in Javis troubles when I read this.
So they plug into the power sockets? They are wireless?
I see they on foreign sockets are they not of these shores?
***EDIT***
I see they aint wireless but still if they work a corker of an idea.
How do they not get interference degradation though?

Sounds good but my pc isn't so far away from the ps3.
They're not wireless as such, but the adapters and ethenet cables are usual behind the tv if connected to a console or behind a study desk when connected to the router. They are 3 pin plug that goes straight into the wall (Uk standard) you might be able to get 2 pin or whatever but I've not seen them.

Javi get these, sell your router!!!
Problem solved.

Id hate to have to buy another device I can't return the one I have since I got it so cheap is there anything else worth looking into besides troubleshooting it?
Mate call them.
They will get you into the router settings and show you how to set it up properly.

^^^ other than getting a better router maybe, With N caperbility rather than the usual B/G. N's transmit data much fast so would eliminate the lag, and have a much increased Range and signal strength. They can be expensive.
Don't know what else to suggest mate, erm... you could do some speed tests on it, connect it to a laptop or pc wirelessly and see if your deffo getting the same speed you think you are. www.speedtest.net and run a broadband speed test.
