Hey guys, don't know if anyone can help!
A few weeks ago my laptop packed up and since I have had to get myself a new one. As those "apple" people will know, this means that I have to download itunes again but here is my dilemma. Once I plug my ipod in it will sync and I will have my precious upwards of 8000 songs deleted from my library!!
I need some help in stopping this happening and a way of putting my songs from my ipod to my new, empty itunes.
I don't even know if it is possible?!

How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
^^^^^Instructions.
I moved iTunes from my work laptop to my home laptop. All purchases made from iTunes were there on the new laptop. You must use your existing account.
Any music you have copied from CDs, will not appear in iTunes, you need to back them up first to CD/DVD.
If you do copy them onto to CD, when you import them back into iTunes, they will be without track names
*Disclamier - not responsible for the above, this is based on an individual experience, please ask your parents for help, normal geographical charges apply, don't eat yellow snow.

Actually none of that is of any use to me as my old computer is buggered.
All I have is an empty itunes library and an ipod full of songs. Looks like I could be buggered.

It says
While you can use the Transfer Purchases from iPod option under the File menu to copy iTunes Store purchases from the iPod to another computer, you can't transfer songs from other sources from the iPod library to iTunes, so you'll need to follow the steps below to use iPod as a hard disk to transfer music files from one computer to another. This process will require the use of iTunes 7 or later on all computers. Any computers running iTunes 6 or earlier will need to be updated to follow these steps. Download the latest version of iTunes here. Once you have the files transferred, you'll need to authorize any iTunes Store content. If you won't be using your old computer, you'll want to
Instructions are here
iTunes Mac 8.0 Help: Moving your iTunes Store purchases to another computer
That will look after your iTune purchased songs.
Anything from other sources, you may need to copy to disc

After refreshing your computer from a crash, you'll need to re-download iTunes. You can download iTunes from iTunes.com.
#
Step 2
After following the steps to download and install iTunes, open iTunes and connect your iPod. This is VERY important....DO NOT sync your iPod. Doing so will delete all media from your iPod.
#
Step 3
Instead of sync'ing, go to the toolbar at the top and select "File". From there, you'll need to select "Transfer Purchases from iPod." Music you purchased from iTunes will now be transferred to your "Purchased" folder under "Store."
Should you accidentally delete your purchased items, don't despair. Visit http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/, fill out the form along with a recent order number (this can be obtained from your iTunes account) and an explanation of what happened. iTunes will respond within 24 hours giving you a "one time" opportunity to re-download all your purchases.
