hi guys and girls,
got my 21st coming up, going to be asking for a new laptop.
mac book pro is an option, but not sure if want a mac.
Being a student/researcher it has to have loads of memory, i also like to run a lot music creating software, which uses lots of processing power and ram, let me know what you think i should get....
Also i will be paying for some, if not most of it so not stupidly expensive lol
edit:
Buy ACER AS5532-314G50MN | 15.6" widescreen laptop - Laptops | Comet
how about this one?
This never ending story, paid for with pride and fate, We all fall short of glory, lost in ourself
DONT GET AN ACER!!!!!!!
The figures look good for the price, but me n the missus both had one and hers had problems after a month or 2 - mine last a bit longer but ultimately died without notice (mobo). Think hers is the mobo too - avoid!!
ok, cheers for that. Dont want a dell ether, the missus has one and it is shite. Turns its self on and of when ever it wants, well anoying

My Acer now has the power light but never actually gets round to booting if you know what I mean (but to give it its dues it did last nearly 2 yrs), whereas hers you have to boot up twice before u get to the desktop (?!?) which started about 4 months after she bought it.
Both problems I am assumin with the mobo (with my limited knowledge of comps) so I would avoid them; good value for money, poor build/component quality in my experience
My son is well into computing, he runs a lot of music and does all sorts of computing stuff that I don't even understand. He's just got himself a Sony Vaio and is well impressed.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs and blaming it on you ... you probably haven't a clue what's going on!
Go on the Dell's website and build one to match your budget. I spent £700 on the XPS studio, never had a single problem with it. Really really pleased
Top end Acer's are fine, budget ones have lots of issues. SWMBO at home got one 10 years ago (Ferrari) and it is still going

COYS
If you dont want a Mac and you want a windows based lappy then SONY all the way, although dont get the sonys below 800 notes as they are no where near as good quality as the greater than 800 notes .
I personally wouldnt buy any other make, nothing compares imo. Acers are bad , my misses has one and its terrible.
People complain about the software that is preloaded with sony's, very simple resolution to that , uninstall it. No point in choosing a less superior Laptop just because of the software thats loaded on it
Lazy so and so just got up. It's a W12 mini noyebook. Don't know if that helps, but he says Sony Vaio are all very good.
