Another world, Living in South Africa!! (1)

There are always 2 sides to a coin and it is no different in this part of the world.

We are blessed with fantastic weather on the west coast, Durban being my nearest major city which is 120 kilometres away. Our roads are very spacious but in pretty poor condition, except for the motorways, these are normally kept in pretty good condition as we have numerous toll gates and the money is used to upgrade them on a regular basis. Secondary roads on the other hand have detiorated badly over the years and potholes are everywhere and although they do eventually get repaired, they invariably need repairing again due to tenders often being given to inexperienced company's who are not necessarily experienced in roadworks,
but have the connections to win the tenders. To give an example recently a tender was awarded to a caterer to do verge and grass cutting in our area......she just happened to be a family member of one of the local councillors. Needless to say our area is not always the prettiest site on the planet and verges tend to only be attended to just before major holidays.
On the other hand we have magnificent weather all year long, when even in winter you rarely have to be wearing anything more than a T shirt and shorts. It seldom rains in winter. We have beautiful sandy beaches, Mountains, huge game reserves and amazing scenery.

I was allocated round 1 tickets for 5 matches and a last 16 match all being played in Durban (which is just 80 miles from where i live)

I wont know which teams i will get to see, until after the world cup draw. But, i'm more than happy with that. Just obtaining tickets to be part of the event is brilliant.

Unfortunately, i didn't manage to get tickets for the semi's which are also in Durban, but i will re-apply and who knows i might ...

I was so happy, i even helped the mrs with the hooving............so even the mrs was happy Spurs had a new manager!

Opened a beer and now watching Chelsea v Liverpool and hopefully a resurgent Spurs to follow next up......isn't life wonderfull?

  • Scratching 24/10

I crawled out of bed this morning, scratching my head about last nights match, having watched it on a dodgy video feed last night, which decided it had had enough of Spurs and refused to show any further pictures for the last 10 minutes or so. I eventually found another feed to hear we had lost 2 bloody nil. I scratched my head in disbelief.

Here I am in South Africa and talking to my brother in the uk on Skype, about the fact that i am looking out the window overlooking the sea and ...
