Wes Leonard, 16, Dies After Hitting Game-Winning Shot In Michigan High School Basketball Game

In very sad and tragic news, Wes Leonard, a 16-year old Michigan high school basketball player collapsed and died Thursday night after he hit a game-winning shot for Fennville.

The victory was the school's 20th of the season, they finished the regular season undefeated, but that was definitely not what people are thinking about right now.

According to the report on ESPN.com, Leonard hit the game-winning layup, then, teammates and fans stormed the court. As the floor began to fill up with excited and joyous students, Leonard collapsed to the ground.

Leonard was rushed to the hospital, where paramedics performed CPR. He never recovered and was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after arriving at the hospital.

"It's hard to stomach," coach Rocky Johnson, whose Bangor High team faced Fennville three times this season, told the Grand Rapids newspaper. "We are all hurting now."

Sometimes we all lose sight of things that really matter when we are watching sports. As much as we love and care about these games, they are just that - games. When real life intervenes and something like this happens, you are left with a lot of questions and too few answers.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends, family and teammates of Wes Leonard at this most difficult time.
