Aston Villa want safe-standing area at Villa Park | Mail Online
Aston Villa have launched plans to open a safe-standing area at their Villa Park ground. The club hope to put forward their proposal at a meeting of the Premier League later this season. But even if their bold proposal was given the green light, Villa would require a change in law to open the stand.
Chief executive Paul Faulkner has provisionally earmarked the corner of Villa Park, where the Holte End meets the Trinity Road stand, for a test area, according to the Birmingham Mail. But even if they are given the go-ahead, it would be the 2013/14 season at least before the stand was open.Villa have held discussions with the Football Supporters’ Federation and Faulkner floated the idea to the club’s fans for the first time before Saturday’s draw with Everton at Villa Park.
Villa are examining the introduction of ‘rail seats’, which have been used effectively at German club Borussia Dortmund and across Europe. These are flip-up seats which are UEFA compliant and can accommodate seated supporters during designated all-seater matches or be stowed away to create a standing area at other times. The Scottish Premier League last month gave its clubs permission to have safe-standing areas within their stadiums.

I think that would be great. But sadly can see a lot of opposition against it in England.
Been to a fair few games in the Bundesliga where they have safe standing (and serve beer in the ground) and it adds a lot to the atmosphere. Also tickets for the standing area are often between €10-15 if they aren't all taken up by season ticket holders anyway. I'd hope that the tickets for standing areas would be reasonably priced if it ever came into effect in the Premier League too.

It would be REALLY great to get some more bums on seats .....er...er.......!!!!
Is it regulation that fans require a seat when attending games in England? I'm confused:s
In a world full of City's and United's...there is only one Hotspur
Going to a Spurs game? Why not try and meet up with a few of your fellow posters. http://www.tottenhamhotspurs.tv/forum/meets/

It was in something called the Taylor Report which became law . Hillsborough was the day that football in the UK changed .
Here ya go an easy read version The Taylor Report
Not sure if this is a good idea, but perhaps we have better crowd control now then we did back then i.e. automated ticket barriers, tickets rarely go on general sale etc.
I agree it would be great for the atmosphere, but history does sometimes repeat itself.

I don't see the problem if you have the rail seats as you would still have an order to it and people in a set place for h+s.
