Seeking a Spurs perspective to re-branding

Greetings Spurs fans,

I will announce straight away that I am a Palace fan and despite living with a Spurs fan for a number of years I would really like to gain a much bigger set of opinions from yourselves regarding re-branding, particularly your change of crest in 2006.

Why? Crystal Palace have recently announced that the club intends to change it's current crest at the end of the 11/12 season and I for one would be very keen to learn about the opinions and feelings of Spurs fans regarding your own change of crest and the reactions since.

If I may, I would like particularly to ask you all the following questions:
1. What was your original feelings to the club changing your crest? Were you informed well that the changes would occur? Did you have much involvement in choosing the new crest? How do you feel Spurs fans on the whole felt?

2. Do you feel the change of crest has enhanced or jeopardised the clubs stature? Has the clubs history/integrity been damaged/sacrificed at all in your opinion by the club 'updating' the crest?

3. Since 2006 have your feelings changed towards the crest? Have you been pleased with changes that have been made to merchandise etc that the new crest now adorns?

Finally, if you have any information regarding how the club has benefited financial from the re-branding ie. increased merchandising sales, reduction in costs to replicate the new 'streamlined' crest, then I would be really appreciative to learn about these implications.

I would love to hear what your thoughts are in this area, as well as any other cross-city banter you may be wanting to share. Look forward to any responses you are able to give.

I loved the change. I grew up on the old crest but the beauty of Spurs is in simplicity and that crest was too flashy for my taste. The toned down crest IMO was more vintage Spurs.

I think re-branding of Crystal Palace could be a good thing. Possibly make them more marketable and a new outlook. It's a common tactic here in America for putting a new face on a franchise. I know English fans think we don't value tradition but I assure you we do, changing logos/color schemes is a tricky thing to navigate. Oddly enough in America teams that have change logos or color schemes have had success. My Broncos were perennial failures, change the colors and we win a Superbowl. Same with the Pats, Bucs and Rams.

With hindsight I am very pleased with the change, the current emblem is very sleak, simple and stylish.

I think you'd be hard pushed nowadays to find someone who is very anti the change. It was a bit of a return to the original style and we've had 5 - 6 changes over the years so even the hard core traditionalists would find it hard to argue.

At the time though I wasnt overly pleased, but I think there was a lot of being uncomfortable with changes of traditional features for commercial gain, a concept I still stand by but I think that criticism was misplaced on that occasion

Change is good if its progressive.

If its just for the sake of change then "dont fix wont aint broke" applies.

The club "moto" should however always be present.

I dont think its affected the club's stature. i do think its pretty sexy though. To be fair i dont think the clubs history or integrity has been affected at all

since 2006 i've fallen in love with it just as much if not more than the old crest/crests. I've got the current badge tattooed on my arm & love it.

Slightly off topic but i'd like to know of any football clubs who had unsuccessful or hideous crest changes...

Glad we changed it tbh.

At the time I never disliked the old badge......in fact I really liked it.

But I'd never go back now, I love the new one - it's probably my favourite ever Spurs one actually.

These are the 4 proposed designs the owners say were the best submitted. Voting for the new crest continues till the new year but there are a number of fans still unhappy with the changes. Personally I am all for a modernising of the crest as our current crest is apparently way too intricate to be recreated on most forms of merchandising, I have been told that the difference in price between an embroided crest on a replica shirt with the old crest and a new one is as much as 75p per shirt. Quite a considerable difference.. however I'm not sure how completely reliable that info is.

I like the top two, they look smart, the bottom right one is god-awful though, people's opinions will change when they get used to it I suspect

The first one is sexy as hell and it gets all the colors in. Similar to the Spurs logo but I think it's unique enough.
