Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United Match History 1899 to 2010

Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur in the 10th game of the 2010-11 Premier League season at Old Trafford on Saturday 30th October 2010.

It will be the 178th meeting between the two clubs who were the "glamour teams" of the 1960s.

Tottenham Hotspur's first meeting with Manchester United came in the old 1st round (today's 3rd round) of the FA Cup in January 1899 when United were known as Newton Heath. The match was drawn 1-1 at Northumberland Park, but Spurs won the replay 5-3 at Bank Street in Clayton, Manchester.

Wayne Rooney just signed a new 5 year contract. Evidently, he has been convinced that Sir Alex Ferguson would be given the money to buy players that would help win them Championships.

Two Sunday newspapers are reporting that Man Utd would put a bid in for our beloved Bale (News of the World, Bale for £8 Million PLUS Carrick and Ji Sung Park. Sunday Mirror £22 Million).

Not a bad return for a player Spurs paid Southampton £5 Million for and only a year and a half ago, was considered a "jinx" (no home wins whenever he featured in the line-up).

Bale has in each game, continued to woo the White Hart Lane masses. Had Benoit Assou-Ekotto remained ...

After what can only be described as an eventful evening out in Milan during midweek, Spurs faced the tough task of welcoming a significantly fresher Everton side to White Hart Lane.

Harry Redknapp brought in Younes Kaboul, van der Vaart and in strange fashion, Wilson Palacios after a chance meeting with Palacios and his Mother out in London.

It was a bright start for both sides, with Spurs shading the opening exchanges, but as has been an issue so far this season, the only thing Spurs showed for it was a low shot from Luka Modric that was tipped round the post by Tim Howard just before the quarter hour mark. Modrics effort was followed soon after by another ...

After Harry made his statement latley in the newspaper and im really wondering
how our future team will look like, and what will happen in the future as well.

“One or two players in the right positions – and I’m talking about two top, top, players in the right positions.

“If we could go and do that Tottenham could win the league in a couple of years. This squad is just so full of talent anyway, players who have made their mark.

So where do you see the need of these "2 Top Players" ?

I've been thinking a lot with new possible signings and people that will leave us in the next years.

So I started thinking from ...

Credit to BlueCrew LA for his link to that zonal marking website.

      Top top site that.

Found this full in depth analysis of the baby giraffe. Up to date (15th october) Interesting argument, doesnt change much for me though, I would still rather have a world class all round footballer/striker instead. With Crouch on the bench coming on in times when his style & strengths suit.

      Heres the article...

For me, the guy who wrote this article was a pro Crouch sympathiser. Im not sure but I think this may be a photo of him

      Random Quite Interesting Spurs facts:

      • Tottenham are the the third most successful club of all time in the FA Cup, behind only Manchester United and Arsenal. We have won the competition 8 times since 1901 and have reached the final 9 times.

      • Despite being well-known for our support of homegrown talent, the club has pioneered the use of foreign stars in the English game. We famously signed Argentine duo Osvaldo Ardiles & Ricardo Villa back in 1978 for just £700,000 but our international influences stretch back much further than that. German Striker Max Seeburg joined Spurs way back in 1907 whilst still in the Southern League and became the first foreigner to play in the English Football League when Spurs were elected to join the Second Division in 1908.

      • Not just the first and only team to have won the FA Cup whilst still plying their trade out-side of the Football League, Spurs set a whole host of standards for the competition ...

The early years of the football club were very much a low key affair. Football in its modern guise was still in its infancy and was generally seen as subservient to the country’s main pastime of cricket. Sport was heavily encouraged amongst school children as it was seen to be essential in their athletic development and building of character. Since about 1880 a group of 10 year old boys (and a few older brothers) from St. John’s Middle Class and Tottenham Grammar Schools had been spending their summer months playing cricket as part of the Hotspur Cricket Club. They continued like this for approximately 2 years when, as the winter of 1882 began to encroach, they began looking for ways to extend their leisure time and maintain their fitness. ...
