My dad had a friend who was a sports photographer for the Daily Mail. He attended "A LOT" of Spurs games during the late 70's and early 80's, including FA CUP FINALS, CHARITY SHIELDS, FA CUP ROUNDS, and EUROPEAN GAMES.
I was given a stack of unused Press Association black and white prints from around 1978 through to the mid eighties, which i'm using for a picture based series of articles titled "MEMORIES OF WHITE HART LANE - MOMENTS IN TIME", which will highlight moments in time which changed history for TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.
Part 3 is concentrating on the 1981 FA CUP FINAL and REPLAY. The picture below captures the moment when GLENN HODDLE smashed a freekick into the MANCHESTER CITY net for the equaliser (via TOMMY HUTCHINSON'S shoulder). I was at this game, and remember the relief and sheer joy of this magical "MOMENT IN TIME" for Spurs...
The next picture (below) is the MOMENT IN TIME when RICKY VILLA smashes the ball into the MANCHESTER CITY net, to give Spurs the lead in the REPLAY. Who could forget just how sad RICKY VILLA looked when he trudged off dejected after being substituted in the 1st game, to return to WEMBLEY for the REPLAY and score such an important goal. It was a magic "MOMENT IN TIME", but better was to come.
After experiencing every emotion imaginable during this game (Spurs went 1-0 up - then 2-1 down) before GARTH CROOKS equalised to get Spurs back in the game. The next picture (below) is the MOMENT IN TIME when RICKY VILLA scored the best FA CUP FINAL goal EVER. After beating 3 or 4 MAN CITY defenders (some twice) he slipped the ball under the MAN CITY goalkeeper to win the cup for Spurs.
The last picture (below) in this trip down memory "LANE", is of Spurs captain (STEVE PERRYMAN) and double goalscorer (RICKY VILLA), on the lap of honour with the FA CUP. A magic night for Spurs, and some memorable "MOMENTS IN TIME" in the history of TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.
