The debate about goal-line technology in football has been rumbling for years now, and the events already in the Euros – specifically the Ukraine’s wrongly disallowed goal against England – have ensured that it is set to remain high on the agenda.

Already notorious FIFA President Sepp Blatter has stated on Twitter that such technology is now “a necessity.” However although the opinions of Sepp Blatter usually offer a reliable radar for any intelligent football fan
      - by reminding them that they should think precisely the opposite - on this occasion the fact that Blatter believes something shouldn’t automatically lead the rest of us to dismiss it.

There have been more and more high profile wrong decisions in Premiership matches over the last few years that suggest it should be seriously considered. ...

My dad had a friend who was a sports photographer for the Daily Mail. He attended "A LOT" of Spurs games during the late 70's and early 80's, including FA CUP FINALS, CHARITY SHIELDS, FA CUP ROUNDS, and EUROPEAN GAMES.

I was given a stack of unused Press Association black and white prints from around 1978 through to the mid eighties, which i'm using for a picture based series of articles titled "MEMORIES OF WHITE HART LANE - MOMENTS IN TIME", which will highlight moments in time which changed history for TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.

Part 3 is concentrating on the 1981 FA CUP FINAL and REPLAY. The picture below captures the moment when GLENN HODDLE smashed ...

1981 was a FANTASTIC year for TOTTENHAM. In the FA CUP we were drawn at HOME in every round (except for QPR in the 3rd).

After beating QPR in the 3rd round (3-1 after a replay at the LANE), we beat HULL CITY in the 4th (2-0), COVENTRY CITY in the 5th (3-1) and EXETER CITY in the 6th (2-0) to take us to the SEMI FINAL against WOLVES at HILLSBOROUGH. The SEMI FINAL would be the 1st time SPURS had been outside of LONDON during the whole cup run.

MOMENTS IN TIME PART 2 is a picture based trip down memory "LANE". This part is about that 1981 FA CUP RUN, with unused press association pictures of the games (that were given to me by my dad's friend who was a sports ...

30 years ago, I was a Tottenham crazy teenager.....

My dad, (was also Tottenham mad), had a friend who was a sports photographer for the Daily Mail. He attended "A LOT" of Spurs games during the late 70's and early 80's, including FA CUP FINALS, CHARITY SHIELDS, FA CUP ROUNDS, and EUROPEAN GAMES.

As a sports photographer (remember this was the 1980's), some pictures were used, but "A LOT" weren't.....

I was given a stack of unused press association black and white prints from around 1978 through to the mid eighties.

I was clearing out my loft a few weeks ago, and have found a stack of Spurs memorabilia, programmes, pictures/prints, ...

I remember as the 70's turned into the 80's, and development of WHITE HART LANE was beginning.

In November 1980, work started to demolish the OLD WEST STAND (to be replaced with the current structure), and as a result of this
capacity was reduced, making it extremely difficult to obtain tickets (for all ticket games - as it was pay at the turnstiles in those days).

1980/81 was the season that Spurs reached the FA CUP FINAL (against MAN CITY), and during this amazing cup run, Spurs never left London until the SEMI FINAL at HILLSBOROUGH.

Drawn away to QPR in the 3rd round, Spurs were then drawn at home in the 4th (HULL CITY), 5th (COVENTRY CITY), and ...

With the Stratford saga still raging, I want to voice my opinion about clubs that change grounds, and the personal impact to me.

I fully understand that clubs need to maximise financial possibilities in the modern era, but at what cost...

Well, to me personally, if Spurs were to move grounds it would in an instant erase the memories I have of a place which has become a major part of my life. In 1980, when 13, I sat in the Paxton Road end with my dad for my 1st Tottenham match verses LEEDS UNITED. Into my teenage years, the memories of standing in the SHELF (yes standing!!!) for many home games during the 80's (especially the 81 FA Cup run where apart from the 3rd round ...

After the despair of having an FA CUP FINAL appearance snatched away by a last gasp penalty in the 1981 SEMI FINAL against WOLVES at HILLSBOROUGH, it was off to HIGHBURY for the replay...

This game I remember very well. I had never seen so many SPURS at a game. They were everywhere. HIGHBURY was heaving, and the famous NORTH BANK was packed with thousands of SPURS. It was fantastic, and a vision I will NEVER forget.

Midway through the first half, GARTH CROOKS burst through the WOLVES defense, and SMASHED a low drive into the corner of the net at the NORTH BANK end. HIGHBURY erupted, the NORTH BANK SPURS (never thought I would ever say that) were going crazy. GARTH CROOKS ...

Once I knew that I had a ticket for the 1981 FA CUP FINAL, I started to think about what banner I was going to take. I was 14.

A mate of mine (Philpott) suggested a COCKEREL, and an idea was born….

After sourcing a huge cardboard box, I made a template of a 6ft COCKEREL standing on a ball (the Spurs emblem of course), and this I then took to the local timber merchant, and asked for it to be cut out of plyboard.

I explained to the merchant that the COCKEREL was going to WEMBLEY!!!.

His reply was that he also was a Spurs fan and would cut it out for me “FOR NOTHING”. He wouldn’t take any money for doing it, and even gave me an 8ft long, 2inch

For me it really all started way back in 1977.

I was 10, and remember my DAD (what a hero), going MENTAL at the fact that Tottenham had won 9-0 against Bristol Rovers. He was RAVING about it, and about a player called COLIN LEE. Spurs had been relegated into what was then the old 2nd division (today’s Championship ), and my DAD was just so sure that promotion was going to happen, and that Spurs would return to the top flight of English football.

Back in those days, it was LIVERPOOL who was dominating the English game. At school everybody seemed to be a LIVERPOOL fan (Plastic Scouser’s who were glory hunters, the type who had never even seen their team let alone been ...

I remember being really nervous about this game.... (well it was Man Utd away after all).

We had struggled to get past Southend in the previous round, so the prospect of meeting United at Old Trafford was daunting to say the least, (plus the fact that you just dont win up there!!!), but we had beaten SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY the weekend before (3-0), so we were playing ok....

From the start we were under the smothering waves of United pressure, but didnt concede. We were holding on, but starting to play some nice football, building fluent attacks. When VINNY SAMWAYS found himself in a bit of space on the left, halfway in the United half, he fed a little ball into GARY LINEKER ...
