Update: Chris Paul has said that he will not attend Hornets training camp tomorrow AND he will go and discuss this situation with the players union.
Chris Paul is stepping up to be a Laker.
He tweeted one word when the news came out....
Wow.....
I understand his frustration. A few hours ago, he was a Laker and now the deal gets blocked by the damn Commish.
Also read somewhere that the deal wasn't killed by the owners but by the League officials because of "Basketball reasons"
I know I am, I'm sure I am. I'm Tottenham TILL I DIE.

Best part of this, they aren't even taking the line of "well there NBA owned", basically that's an admission that are stopping this because it makes the Lakers real good.
To put it into context to any football fans reading this, just imagine if all the chairman in the Premiere League got together and convinced UEFA to invalidate the Adebayor loan, for no other reason then it makes Spurs better.

it will get done eventually but i think its kind of funny lol
Fcuking stunning....
An actual email obtained by Yahoo Sports sent by Dan Gilbert the owner of Cavaliers.
WTF!?!?! Now apparently shrewd business is an affront to competitive balance. As if Paul didn't sign for the Lakers he would go to Cleveland, in what world would that happen. How about improving your own shitty franchise Dan and let the Lakers do business. I was the biggest critic of what Lebron did to Cleveland but now I hope they never win another game.Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

Dwight Howard to ask Orlando Magic for trade to New Jersey Nets, sources say - ESPN
@BlueCrew LA would you still do you paul deal if dwight goes to the nets?
I'm a Hornets fan, and I'm absolutely livid about this.
If he ends up staying, we're going to lose him for nothing. They've talked about trying to protect small market teams, but they have just blocked a deal that helps us in the long run.
We're losing Paul whatever happens, so why they won't let us get something for him while we can is beyond me.
We would have got Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Goran Dragic, AND draft picks. I really can't see us striking any deal as good as that now. It's a total joke. When the league stepped in a bough the Hornets, they said they wouldn't get involved like this, and now they have. It's not like the Lakers arn't giving anything up either, Odom was 6th man of the year last season, Pau Gasol? Come on.
We have just been screwed out of a chance to actually make our team better, even with the loss of our franchise player. Cheers Stern, you complete f**ktard.

looks like brandon roy is going to retire
the PA has to be livid right now. I hope it goes through, because it was actually a pretty good deal for all parties not wearing red.
I swear after all this if another team signs Paul that bastard Stern is going to burn.ESPNSteinLineMarc Stein
Sources say league-owned Hornets on Friday afternoon were given clearance to re-open phone lines to all teams interested in Chris Paul
Dancubus (09-12-2011)
Out of principle, surely they can't let Paul move anywhere.
Screw principles though, as an NO fan, I want him gone while we can get some return.
Is The Trade Back On? « NBA.com | Hang Time Blog
In that article on nba.com it also says the deal could still go through. That quote from David Stern is ridiculous.
“Since the NBA purchased the New Orleans Hornets, final responsibility for significant management decisions lies with the Commissioner’s Office in consultation with team chairman Jac Sperling. All decisions are made on the basis of what is in the best interests of the Hornets. In the case of the trade proposal that was made to the Hornets for Chris Paul, we decided, free from the influence of other NBA owners, that the team was better served with Chris in a Hornets uniform than by the outcome of the terms of that trade.”
How is CP3 staying with us for a season, after which we get nothing for him, better for our team. I actually believe that trade would have made us a better team, then we would be with Paul. At least for this season anyway.

Apparently they're still working on a deal but with younger players.
Some vets and some rookies.
