On the other hand, footballers get paid even if they're doing bugger all; only a percentage of an Am Footballer's wages is guaranteed, the rest relies on a number of factors (playing time, performance etc).
I'm not the slightest bit anti-semitic. I have watched Schindlers List three times
Value doesn't equal profit or revenue, it's a complicated formula and infrastructure is the biggest benchmark. The value of club doesn't determine whether the can afford to pay players top wages. United with their debt shouldn't be paying players 200k. Without benevolent sugar daddy owners or clubs accumulating massive debt the majority of "big clubs" wouldn't be able to sustain their wage structure. That should be a key indicator that players are being overpaid, and clubs aren't running their business properly. Like I said, winning matters more then being financially prudent and the rules are set up so that this is acceptable, if not encouraged. American Football and Baseball are largely domestic sports and yet the still have comparable value/revenues/profits to any football club. Also, when you consider that things like transfer fees aren't part of the culture most teams have the ability to live completely off normal operation of the franchise, which isn't the case for football clubs. The Colts are in a small market but it's a testament to how well they're run that they can offer contracts compatible to the to "big football clubs" while still being financially healthy. Not to mention they have immaculate infrastructure, with little to no debt.
I know it's not your point but you can hate on American sports for a lot but to call us out of control financially compared to European football clubs couldn't be further from the truth. The system is setup to prevent clubs from overreaching. While in Europe clubs like Citeh will pay overvalue to attract players, it happens in American sports but you have to be careful because doing that can limit you for other targets.
The guy we're talking about is one of the best in the world at what he does. Where does he play? Indianapolis. The equivalent would be Messi playing for Bolton. So I'm not bothered for a second how much he gets paid, he arguably should be making more. Actually he took a pay cut to help Indy bring in more players to make the team better. You think Rossi would take a cut to play here so we can sign more players? Not likely.
To me that's a testament to the system. It has it's drawbacks like the lockout we just endured but overall it's superior.

Plus he's funny....
So he deserves it....
All that money and now the guy may be out for a large chunk of the season with a second neck surgery . . . bad timing eh
Hope he gets back soon . . . seems like a good guy
Not a big surprise.
Peyton Manning says emotional goodbye to Colts - CBS News
I think he's going to Arizona.
And he's taking Reggie Wayne with him. If he does he's arguably going to a better team, all they need is a QB. They have good running backs, decent defense (especially corners), oh yeah and this guy.
Put him in New York, and we'd have a REAL QB controversy.
Also, I think SF might be a dark horse in all this. Put him in their system, with one of the best defenses in the league, a solid running game, and an alright receiving core and they'd arguably be the favorites to win the NFC. A QB and maybe some receivers is all they're missing, he could win a title with that team.
I'm betting on the Dolphins. But hey, what the hell do I know.
This feels like college recruiting.
Sources: Peyton Manning to visit Denver Broncos Friday - ESPN
I'd be surprised to see him go to the Broncos, what with the form Tebow was in towards the end of the season.
My guess, he ends up in Miami. Best fit? Houston. Great running game, great receiver, good defense. Put him in there, best team in the AFC imo.
