it was hard to understand at first but watching enough games you start to understand it

i like the game personally, while football is my favorite sport, american football is really fun to watch and play (i add parts to it tho, like the other day we played on four wheelers haha)

and the length of games does make it a bit boring at times, but its a great to chance to invite some friends over and do crazy stuff, and just have a good time.
if anyone wants to know how to play or the rules just ask a question, im sure i can clear it up
(college football is better go AGGIES!!)

i've just picked a side and have started watching them this season..
i can't handle watching the games live because they go on for so long; but i have found a torrent site that has the games with all the commercials cut out...
when you watch this game without all the breaks it's so much easier to follow...

if anyone wants this site just pm me...

anyone who loves sport (probably all of us) but doesn't follow nfl really should make the effort.... i don't think i get the game just yet... and i've been lucky because my chosen team has been winning...
on that note... if you love sport you really should start watching australian rules football... it really it the greatest game on earth....

I've sort of lost interest in the NFL tbh, the games are too long, I don't generally like most of the players, and the sport is so blatantly geared for advertisements at the expense of the actual competition that it just turns me off.

Of the sports over here, the only one that gets my blood going on a level even close to footy is college basketball. Granted, I'm from NC, which means it's sort of genetically encoded in me to be a college hoops fan, but it's fast-moving, the fans are passionate, (especially in my neck of the woods) and the NCAA tournament is absolutely insane.

I'ts funny, a lot of British people I know who spent time over here got caught up in college basketball, and complain to me that they can't get ACC basketball games in England- the same complaint I make about trying to follow Spurs and football in general over here.

That was the best thing about watching it on Sly's red button last season. When it went to a 'game break' the showed clips of the Cheerleaders in action.

The problem I found with this was that the game interupted the Cheerleading!!!

I dont get why it is called football.

They kick it maybe 3 times in an entire match.

It should be called catch...................or poofs rugby.

Thats about right as it happens .

When they first started showing the superbowl 20 odd years ago , one of my mates got involved with a start up team over here . I was curious why he got involved so asked , and it was because it was a good excuse to have a bit of rough and tumble . Like someone else said you dont have to have the ball . But i pressed him for how it all works because it looked very complicated to understand .

So he gave me a basic easy to follow rundown .

Offense = Attacking side = or the ones with the ball , are allowed to grab opposition players that get in the way , are allowed to wrestle them out of the way , and are allowed to grab hold of clothing - helmet - anything they need to get past them .

Defense , are not allowed to grab at all , but are allowed to push the players and move into their path .

"Unless they have the ball" = then anything goes to get him to the ground

Any interceptions means that the new team with the ball adopt offense rules and vise versa .

The reason it takes so long is because when possession changes hands the team that now has the ball bring on their offense specialists , and the team that dont bring on their defense speciaslists . So in reality they both have two teams , and as somebody else pointed out their is big money sponserships at stake so the little proffessors bring in tried and untried tactics to get the ten yards at the first attempt .

I used to watch it for the first few years just to see if i had heard it right , but it was getting up at 3am and watching for 4+ hours that drove me away , but i could still watch it if it was at a decent time of day .

american football can be pretty complicated. however the main problem i have started getting with it is that there is sooooo much stopped time. they are trying to get so much money that its like watching commericals interupted by american football games. but growing up with it all my life i tend to think the rules are quite simple.
