The Rose Bowl really started in 1923. Southern California v Penn State, we won 14-3 and would go on to win 24 Rose Bowls...

Ah man I'm feeling all nostalgic. I have no option because we won't be bowling this year.

      By the way...

The best team ever to play in the Rose Bowl was the 1972-73 USC Trojans. Some would argue, me especially, that this was the greatest college football team of all time. They steam rolled just about every team the played and had a pretty tough schedule, culminating in the 1972-73 Rose Bowl game. A game littered with NFL talent and future hall of famers on both sides, SC dominated winning 42-17.

      Here's the schedule...

      9/9/1972 @ Arkansas 31-10
      9/16/1972 Oregon State 51-6
      9/23/1972 @ Illinois 55-20
      9/30/1972 Michigan State 51-6
      10/7/1972 @ Stanford 30-21
      10/14/1972 California 42-14
      10/21/1972 Washington 34-7
      10/28/1972 @ Oregon 18-0
      11/4/1972 @ Washington State 44-3
      11/18/1972 @ UCLA 24-7
      12/2/1972 Notre Dame 45-23
      1/1/1973 Ohio State 42-17

      I love this quote:

Washington State Coach Jim Sweeney disagreed. "USC's not the No. 1 team in the country," said Sweeney, whose Cougars endured a 44-3 loss against the Trojans. "The 1972 Miami Dolphins are better." (They went undefeated)

Some people put the 1971 Nebraska team over SC, mainly southern folks. That Nebraska team was good but they didn't run a pro-style offense, so there dominance is overstated IMO. If anyone comes close to the 1972 Trojans it's the 2002 Miami Hurricanes not Nebraska. Miami's roster was insane.
